Transfer News: Manchester United urged to move for Manchester City star Sergio Aguero

Manchester United have been urged to consider making a move for Manchester City superstar Sergio Aguero in the summer transfer window.

Speaking to Ladbrokes, as quoted by Goal.com, former Manchester United midfielder Paul Ince has called on the Red Devils to make a shock move to sign Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero in the summer.

Aguero, 32, joined Manchester City in the summer of 2011 from Atletico Madrid and has gone on to etch his name in the history books as one of the greatest strikers to have played in the Premier League. The all-time leading goalscorer for the Cityzens, the Argentine played an integral role in ushering in the trophy-laden era at the Etihad Stadium.

A top-class marksman, Aguero has seen his importance diminish at Manchester City over the past year, though. Injuries, lack of fitness have played a role while manager Pep Guardiola has also found a way to set his team up in a way that does not always require a traditional centre-forward leading the attack.

All of it has resulted in reduced game-time for the Argentine international. Besides, Aguero’s contract with Manchester City runs out at the end of the current season with talks over a new one yet to be opened. This has led to intense speculations over his future with the likes of Barcelona interested in signing him.

Manchester City, meanwhile, have locked in on Southampton star Danny Ings as one of the potential candidates to replace Aguero. Amidst all this, former Manchester United midfielder, Paul Ince, has urged Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to consider making a move for the 32-year-old striker.

“It’s not as if Harry Kane and Erling Haaland are the only two answers for Manchester United. Sergio Aguero might be leaving Manchester City, why shouldn’t United make a move for him? You could see it now; if he wanted to stay in the Premier League and he’s living in Manchester, then I don’t think it would be a bad thing at all if they went and got Aguero,” Ince said.

Manchester United are in desperate need of a new striker heading into the new season as Anthony Martial has once again struggled to deliver the goods in front of the goal, so much so that the club is considering the possibility of offloading him. In addition, Edinson Cavani has had troubles with fitness and his future also remains uncertain.

So, bringing an elite goalscorer should be a top priority for Manchester United. However, despite Ince’s suggestions, a move for Aguero seems nigh on impossible given his history with the club’s local rivals, not to mention that iconic moment from the 2011/12 Premier League campaign that the Red Devils’ supporters are unlikely to forget anytime soon.
