Transfer News: Bayern Munich in talks with Lucas Vazquez

Bayern Munich are reportedly in discussions with Real Madrid winger Lucas Vazquez over a possible move in the summer transfer window.

According to a report by Spanish publication AS, Bayern Munich have begun negotiations with representatives of Lucas Vazquez over a possible Bosman move in the summer transfer window. The Spanish international could leave Real Madrid at the end of the season.

Lucas Vazquez has established himself as a handy option in the first-team setup since enjoying a breakthrough 2015/16 campaign with Real Madrid. However, it is the ongoing season wherein he has gone on to truly cement his status as a key player for the Merengues, having impressed in every role that he has essayed so far.

In 31 appearances across all competitions, Vazquez might have only contributed with 2 goals and 7 assists, but his darting runs have been a key component of Real Madrid’s gameplay. However, his current deal with the club is set to run out at the end of the season, with there being little progress over a renewal. This has seemingly piqued the interest of Bayern Munich.

Bayern Munich’s interest in Vazquez makes sense, considering Douglas Costa is unlikely to be signed on a permanent deal in the summer transfer window while Kingsley Coman has also been linked with a possible summer exit.

As a result, the Real Madrid superstar is an option worth considering, seeing as Serge Gnabry and Leroy Sane are the only other wingers in Hansi Flick’s squad. To that end, it looks like Bayern Munich have already initiated discussions with Vazquez’s entourage to ascertain if a deal can be agreed.

So far, there have been suggestions that Arsenal and Tottenham have been sounded out over a possible summer move. However, the Bundesliga champions’ entry into the picture could put a spanner in the works for the two Premier League giants, considering they are highly unlikely to qualify for the UEFA Champions League next season.

Real Madrid, on their part, seem to be planning for life after Vazquez as well, with Jorge de Frutos reportedly identified as a possible replacement, even though Zinedine Zidane would prefer keeping hold of the 29-year-old. It now remains to be seen if Real Madrid can retain the Spaniard, or if he ends up joining Bayern Munich this summer.
