Transfer News: Manchester United willing to offer up to €50 million to sign Saul Niguez

Manchester United reportedly remain interested in Saul Niguez, but will only be prepared to offer up to €50 million to sign him this summer.

According to a report by Spanish outlet La Razon, Saul Niguez is ready to call it quits at Atletico Madrid in the summer transfer window. Manchester United are still interested in the Spanish international, but are unwilling to trigger his €150 million release clause and will only offer up to €50 million to secure his services.

Saul Niguez joined Atletico Madrid’s academy in 2008 and subsequently made rapid progress in the youth setup before breaking into the first-team squad in 2012. After making his senior bow aged just 17, the Spaniard had to wait till the 2014/15 season to enjoy his breakthrough campaign at the club.

Since then, he has not looked back and has gone on to amass over 300 games for the Colchoneros, with 43 goals and 18 assists to show for his efforts. At the same time, he has also gone on to establish himself as a regular for the Spanish national side, with his progress capturing the attention of several big clubs across Europe, and most prominently Manchester United.

Ahead of the summer transfer window, Manchester United are once again interested in signing the 26-year-old, and the Red Devils could have their best chance yet to snap him up. The report claims that Saul is ready to call it quits at Atletico Madrid post the ongoing campaign, which could pique the interest of suitors.

Manchester United are in a precarious position over the future of Paul Pogba once again and it is prudent for them to scour for possible replacement options. As a result, the Premier League giants have been linked with Franck Kessie and others, suggesting that they are keeping their options open.

And to that end, Saul would also be a viable target for Manchester United, seeing as he can essay various different roles in midfield. However, the Red Devils are not prepared to pay anywhere near the €150 million his release clause is valued at and will only shell out figures between €35 million and €50 million to swoop him away from Atletico Madrid.

Meanwhile, Atletico Madrid, on their part, seem to be preparing for life after Saul, with Fabian Ruiz in their sights. As far as the Spanish international is concerned, it will be interesting to see if Los Rojiblancos are ready to accept an offer up to €50 million for their prized possession, or if they demand a higher sum in exchange for his services.
