Barcelona defender Junior Firpo is reportedly on the radars of a host of clubs including Arsenal ahead of the summer transfer window.

According to a report from Transfer Market Web, Premier League giants Arsenal are pondering over the possibility of making a summer swoop for Barcelona full-back Junior Firpo.

The 24-year-old joined Barcelona in the summer of 2019 from fellow La Liga outfit Real Betis. Having brought in to provide competition and eventually take over from first-choice left-back Jordi Alba, Firpo has struggled to do so and has largely been relegated to the bench.

In nearly two seasons with the Catalan giants, Firpo has managed just 40 appearances, scoring two goals and setting up three more in the process. The ongoing campaign has seen the 24-year-old feature 17 times in all competitions, but only two of them have been starts in La Liga.

With Barcelona in financial turmoil, the club would be open to offloading some players in the summer, with Firpo believed to be one among those. And this has sparked a flurry of interest in the left-back, despite his lack of game-time at Camp Nou.

The likes of AC Milan, Atalanta, Napoli are all considering making a move for the 24-year-old defender in the summer. And along with them, Premier League bigwigs Arsenal, too, are said to keen on the Dominican Republic born left-back.

As things stand, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has only Kieran Tierney as the out-and-out left-back in the squad. Sead Kolasinac was loaned out in January to FC Schalke and seems like he does not have a future at the club. Cedric Soares has been used at times on the left side, but he hasn’t always looked convincing.

So, adding another left-back in the summer transfer window to ensure adequate depth in the position becomes a necessity for the Gunners. Firpo, to that end, has emerged as a viable target for the north London giants. In fact, it has even been suggested that Arsenal would be open to making use of Barcelona’s interest in Hector Bellerin to lure Firpo from Camp Nou.

It, however, remains to be seen if Arteta & co. do act on their reported interest in the Barcelona star or look at other alternatives, with Jordan Amavi also said to be a target for Arsenal ahead of the summer transfer window.
