Transfer News: Arsenal eyeing summer move for Jordan Amavi

Arsenal are reportedly keen on completing a summer move for Jordan Amavi, who is yet to put pen to a new deal with Marseille.

According to a report by French outlet Le 10 Sport, Jordan Amavi continues to be the subject of interest from Arsenal, this time over a move in the summer transfer window. However, the 26-year-old is open to the prospect of staying put at Marseille, having previously been ready to call it quits at the Orange Velodrome.

Amavi joined Marseille from Aston Villa in the summer of 2017 and has since gone on to establish himself as one of the best full-backs within Ligue 1. Till date, the Frenchman has turned out 121 times for Les Phoceens, chipping in with 3 goals and 10 assists as well.

However, the player’s future at Marseille has been subject of major concern for the Ligue 1 outift, with his contract running out in the summer. Amavi’s situation has caught the attention of one of the biggest clubs in the world, with Arsenal showing an interest in him.

In fact, the Gunners had been keen on secure the services of the 26-year-old back in January as well before a move failed to materialise. Having said that, making a Bosman move for Amavi makes a great deal of sense, at least from a financial perspective, considering Arsenal’s financial issues.

From a sporting perspective, chasing Amavi is understandable as well, with Kieran Tierney currently the only natural left-back in Mikel Arteta’s squad. Sead Kolasinac joined Schalke on loan in the January transfer window and does not seem to have much of a future at Arsenal.

Hence, it is imperative for Arsenal to sign a left-back in the upcoming summer transfer window, seeing as Arteta has had to deploy Cedric Soares as a makeshift left-back in Tierney’s absence. To that end, Amavi is a viable target for Arsenal, who have also been targeting a move for Jose Gaya.

Arsenal, though, will need to move quickly in order to swoop Amavi away from Marseille, who have made massive strides in their bid to secure the future of the player. The report suggests that the 26-year-old is open to prospect of signing a new contract with Les Phoceens, which could put a spanner in the works for Arsenal and it will be interesting to see if they can turn the Frenchman’s head to land him this summer.
