Torino centre-back Bremer has emerged as the latest target for Liverpool as they continue scouring the market for defensive reinforcements.

According to a report from Mirror, Liverpool have set their sights on Bremer. The Torino centre-back has become the subject of a lot of interest in the transfer market following his performances in Serie A. The Italian outfit is also aware of the situation and are expecting several offers for Bremer this summer, with the player being valued at less than £10 million.

Liverpool are among the clubs looking to secure the services of the Brazilian, who has established himself as a top-class defender in Serie A. The 23-year-old has already made 62 competitive appearances for Torino since initially joining the club back in 2018. His partnership alongside Lyanco has been a central feature in the club’s defensive unit.

Although Il Toro have conceded a whopping 41 goals so far this campaign, Bremer has been one of the rare bright spots, which is why the former Atletico Mineiro starlet has moved ahead of players like Nicolas N’Koulou and Armando Izzo in the pecking order.

Standing at 1.88m, Bremer’s imposing presence at the back, coupled with his ability to play on the left-hand side of the defence makes him an appealing target for Liverpool.

The Reds have been quite unfortunate with the injury-crisis that has plagued their defensive unit this season, with Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip all currently sidelined. It has forced Jurgen Klopp to deploy the likes of Fabinho and Jordan Henderson in the central defensive roles – as covered in our mid-season review for the club.

Premier League 2020/21 mid-season review: Liverpool

Although the club did bring in Ozan Kabak on loan from FC Schalke, there are question marks over his quality at the highest level of football. Liverpool, as a result, are in desperate need of a massive overhaul in the defensive unit this summer, with Bremer appearing as an interesting candidate.

The Torino may not attract the same amount of spotlight that can usually be associated with other targets such as David Alaba or Dayot Upamecano, he has enjoyed a steady growth in Serie A. In addition, the 23-year-old has the physicality and the athleticism that are tailor-made for the Premier League – making him an interesting option for the Reds.

From a financial perspective, Bremer’s meagre £10 million valuation makes him a cost-effective target for Liverpool this summer, though it is extremely likely that the Premier League would want to explore other options, more established as they look to keep up with the likes of Manchester City and Manchester United in the long term.
