Real Madrid could reportedly miss out on the signing of Bayern Munich defender David Alaba as he awaits offers from the Premier League.
According to reputed journalist Constantin Eckner on Twitter, La Liga champions Real Madrid could still miss out on the signing of David Alaba in the summer transfer window as the Bayern Munich contract rebel is waiting for offers from the Premier League.
The 28-year-old’s contract with Bayern Munich expires at the end of the ongoing campaign and he has rejected new contract offers made by the reigning German and European champions. With his exit from Bavaria all but confirmed this summer, a host of clubs have been vying for his signature on a free transfer.
However, Real Madrid had been tipped to be the favourites to land Alaba. In fact, it was even reported that Los Blancos had already agreed a four-year contract with the Austrian international.
As recent reports have indicated, David Alaba's move to Real Madrid is far from finalised. He may prefer Spain but is now open to offers from England. Chelsea and Manchester United are those with interest. #CFC #MUFC #Transfers

The La Liga giants will need to replace club captain Sergio Ramos, whose deal runs out at the end of the season, with Alaba emerging as an ideal target given his experience and quality. But, fresh updates from Eckner is claiming otherwise, with the deal understood to be far from being completed as things stand.
This is because while Alaba would prefer a move to Spain, he is also open to a transfer to the Premier League and is waiting for offers from England. And, two top clubs in England, in the form of Manchester United and Chelsea, are interested in the Austrian international.
Manchester United’s interest in Alaba is not new, with the Red Devils reported to have already made an approach for the Bayern Munich star. While the club is well-stocked in defensive options, there is room for improvement especially with Marcos Rojo leaving the club and Phil Jones out of favour at Old Trafford.
Alaba, given his world-class pedigree, coupled with his ability to play at centre-back and left-back can be a great addition to this Manchester United backline. The same goes for Chelsea as well, with the Blues in need of a long-term replacement for veteran defender Thiago Silva.
The Brazilian, despite impressing since joining on free last summer, is in the twilight years of his career. And while Antonio Rudiger may have received a new lease on life under Thomas Tuchel, Andreas Christensen has been pretty much out of favour and Fikayo Tomori’s long-term future also remains uncertain after his loan move to AC Milan.
So, it should not come as a surprise that Chelsea are looking to bring in a quality operator like Alaba, who will bring a wealth of experience and winning mentality to the side while coming in on a free transfer.
With both the Premier League bigwigs waiting in the wings and Alaba, too, open to offers from England, Real Madrid’s chances of signing Alaba might take a major hit. It now remains to be seen where the Bayern Munich superstar ends up come the end of the season.
