Transfer News: Arsenal, Tottenham vying for Evan N’Dicka signature

Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur are among three Premier League that are reportedly keen on signing Evan N’Dicka from Eintracht Frankfurt.

According to a report by German outlet Bild, Arsenal are in pole position to sign Evan N’Dicka from Eintracht Frankfurt in the summer transfer window. The 21-year-old French centre-back is also a target for the Gunners’ London rivals Tottenham Hotspur.

Evan N’Dicka joined Eintracht Frankfurt from AJ Auxerre in the summer of 2018 and has since gone on to establish himself as an important member of the Bundesliga outfit’s squad. In his very first campaign with the Eagles, the youngster was nominated for the Rookie of the Season award.

Since then, he has continued to grow in stature and in the current season, he has impressed with his displays at the back, with Frankfurt vying for a top four finish. After overcoming some injury issues early into the season, the 21-year-old has gone on to feature 12 times in all competitions. N’Dicka’s progress has duly been noted as well, with Arsenal and Tottenham interested in him.

The January transfer window saw Arsenal trim their squad, with central defence, in particular, one of the areas that were addressed. Shkodran Mustafi ended up joining Schalke while Sokratis had his contract being terminated before he joined Olympiacos. In addition, William Saliba was loaned out to OGC Nice as well, and his future at the Emirates is far from certain.

While Mikel Arteta does have the likes of Rob Holding, Gabriel Magalhaes, David Luiz and Pablo Mari at his disposal in addition to Calum Chambers, it is important to note that Luiz is on the wrong side of 30, meaning Arsenal could do with a new long-term central defensive solution. Tottenham, on the other hand, are in an immediate need of a centre-back.

Davinson Sanchez has been in and out of Jose Mourinho’s side while Toby Alderweireld is fast approaching the twilight of his career. It is, therefore, imperative for Tottenham to make a move for a centre-back in the summer. To that end, Ibrahima Konate has been named as a possible target, with N’Dicka an option worth considering as well.

Tottenham, though, are trailing Arsenal in the race to sign the 21-year-old from Frankfurt, with the report suggesting that the Gunners hold an advantage in his pursuit due to their connections with his agent, Michael N’Cho Ibou. It now remains to be seen if Arsenal do end up making good on their status as the favourites to sign N’Dicka, or if Tottenham can swoop ahead instead.
