Transfer News: Manchester United reach agreement to sign Thiago Almada

Manchester United are reportedly closing in on securing the services of Argentine prodigy Thiago Almada in a €16 million deal.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Todo Fichajes, Manchester United have reached an agreement with Velez Sarsfield over a move for Thiago Almada. The Premier League heavyweights are set to sign the 19-year-old Argentine in a €16 million deal, having also agreed personal terms with the player.

Thiago Almada has gone from strength to strength since breaking into the Velez Sarsfield first-team setup in 2018. Over the past three years or so, the 19-year-old has amassed over 50 appearances for the Argentine outfit, with 15 goals and 4 assists to show for his efforts.

His nimble feet and ability to play across the attacking line have left onlookers impressed, with the teenage prodigy even drawing comparisons with Lionel Messi. Surely enough, the player’s progress alerted a number of top European clubs, with Manchester United leading the race to sign him for quite some time now.

The interest from Manchester United is interesting. Almada is primarily an attacking midfielder, and he is unlikely to be a long-term solution in that position, with Bruno Fernandes being the first-choice option for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, while Donny van de Beek is his deputy.

However, Almada could be a long-term replacement for Juan Mata, who is in the twilight of his career and is reportedly set to leave Manchester United in the summer. The Argentine’s adeptness at playing across the frontline means he could potentially be a solution for the problematic right wing slot, where he could be competing with Amad Diallo for years to come.

How Solskjaer fits Almada in his squad remains to be seen, but it does appear as if the prodigious young forward is destined to join Manchester United. As per the report, the Premier League giants have reached an agreement with Velez Sarsfield over a €16 million deal for Almada.

In addition, Manchester United have also agreed personal terms with the 19-year-old wonderkid and are ready to make him one of the cornerstones of Solskjaer’s project at Old Trafford. What now remains to be seen is if the Red Devils can get the €16 million move over the line soon, with Almada set to leave Velez Sarsfield in the summer transfer window.
