Atletico Madrid have reportedly reignited their interest in Arsenal star Alexandre Lacazette, who is also on the radar of Real Madrid.
According to a report by Daily Mail, Alexandre Lacazette is set to become the subject of a transfer battle between two of Spain’s biggest clubs. The Arsenal striker is being tailed by Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid amid concerns over his strained relationship with manager Mikel Arteta.
Lacazette joined Arsenal from Lyon in the summer of 2017 and was an instant success at the club, becoming one of the most consistent performers for the Gunners in his maiden season. However, over the past two seasons, the French striker has blown hot and cold, with goals coming at a premium.
This term, Lacazette has slowly been back among the goals, but his tally is still well off the desired levels. In 21 appearances across all competitions, the 29-year-old has just 9 goals to his name, but his output has improved in the past month or so. Despite his inconsistencies, though, there is no shortage of interest in the Arsenal striker, who is on the radars of Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid.
Real Madrid have been reported to be in the market for a striker this month following Luka Jovic’s loan move to Eintracht Frankfurt. With the Serb no longer at the club and Rodrygo Goes a long-term absentee due to a hamstring injury, Zinedine Zidane’s options in the final third have been reduced quite a bit.
As a result, Lacazette is a decent enough option to consider for Real Madrid, who have also been touted to be eyeing a move for Memphis Depay. Atletico Madrid, on the other hand, have signed Moussa Dembele from Lyon following the termination of Diego Costa’s contract.
However, it has been suggested that Lacazette is also being eyed by Los Rojiblancos, with Luis Suarez in the twilight of his career. As a result, the Arsenal striker is a viable target for Atletico Madrid, who could go head-to-head with Real Madrid in his pursuit.
The report adds that Lacazette’s relationship with Mikel Arteta has been strained, which could pave the way for a possible exit. On their part, Arsenal are also considering possible replacements, with Odsonne Edouard on their radar. As for Lacazette’s suitors, it remains to be seen if Real Madrid or Atletico Madrid do make a move for the 29-year-old, or if he stays put at the Emirates.
