Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United are reportedly among a host of European clubs keeping tabs on Flamengo youngster Daniel Cabral.
According to Canal Flazoeiro on Twitter, Flamengo teenager Daniel Cabral is attracting plenty of interest from clubs across Europe, with the likes of Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United also said to be monitoring the defensive midfielder.
The 18-year-old started out at hometown club Tenis Clube Mesquita and spent time at Cascadura before joining the Flamengo youth setup. Cabral currently trains with the Brazilian giants’ U-20 outfit but got a chance with the first-team in October last year when he featured against Athletico Paranaense in the Copa do Brasil tournament.
Cabral represented the Brazilian national team at the U-16 and the U-17 level and won the FIFA U-17 World Cup in 2019, before breaking into the U-20 side, for whom he has played once in a friendly encounter against Peru in the last month. Held in the highest of regard at Fluminense, the 18-year-old was recently handed a new long-term contract that runs till 2025.
Cabral’s development in Brazil hasn’t gone unnoticed with a bevy of clubs tracking his progress. As per the report, as many as 17 clubs across Europe have scouted the teenage midfielder, including Premier League heavyweights Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United.
Chelsea, under Frank Lampard, have been handing their academy products chances in the first-team, with the likes of Reece James, Mason Mount, Billy Gilmour and more recently, Tino Anjorin, benefiting from the manager’s propensity to put his faith in youngsters. So, it makes sense that the Blues would look to bolster their youth ranks with the signing of someone like Cabral.
The same goes for Manchester United as well, who have seen youngsters flourish under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. This has seen the Red Devils recruit aggressively over the past year to bolster their youth ranks, with the likes of Willy Kambwala, Joe Hugill, Marc Jurado a few among many names that have made their way to the United youth teams.
So, it mustn’t come as a surprise that Manchester United are tracking a promising talent like Cabral, but will be hoping that they don’t lose out to Liverpool, as they did in the race to sign Stefan Bajcetic recently.
The Merseyside giants have also ramped up their youth recruitment drive over the past couple of seasons and have brought in young talents with potential like Harvey Elliot, Callum Scanlon among others. Furthermore, Jurgen Klopp’s side are battling arch-rivals Manchester United for 16-year-old Derby County sensation Kaide Gordon and are now keeping tabs on Cabral, too.
Apart from the three aforementioned clubs, the likes of AC Milan, Roma, Juventus, Atletico Madrid, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Manchester City, Ajax, PSV, Porto, Sporting Lisbon, Benfica and AS Monaco are also said to be tracking Cabral. It remains to be seen if any of the teams do make an attempt to land the teenage defensive midfielder.
