Barcelona have reportedly created a shortlist of candidates for the left-back slot, with Angelino among those being eyed for a summer move.
According to a report by Spanish publication Sport, Angelino is the subject of interest from Barcelona over a possible move in the summer transfer window. The 24-year-old is being viewed as a long-term successor for Jordi Alba while being an immediate replacement for Junior Firpo.
Angelino is currently on loan from Manchester City at RB Leipzig, where he arrived in January 2020. Initially signed for the second half of the 2019/20 season, the German outfit succeeded in extending his stay for the ongoing campaign as well; and the decision has been vindicated to great effect.
So far in 2020/21, Angelino has been one of the most prolific players for Leipzig, with 8 goals and as many assists in 22 appearances across all competitions. His progress has alerted a bevy of clubs to the potential availability for a summer transfer, with Barcelona among the teams lubs keen on signing him.
Barcelona had even been linked with a move for the 24-year-old last summer before a move failed to materialise. Ahead of the next summer transfer window, though, the Manchester City loanee has popped up on the Blaugrana‘s radar once again, with the club in search of an immediate replacement for Junior Firpo.
The former Real Betis man had been linked with a potential January exit as well, but recent reports have suggested that Barcelona have made a U-turn on that stance. Firpo, though, is expected to be offloaded by the Catalan giants in the summer transfer window. To that end, Barcelona have drawn up a shortlist of possible candidates to replace him.
This player will also be signed with the outlook of being a possible long-term successor for Jordi Alba, who is on the wrong side of 30 and entering the twilight of his career. A part of this shortlist is Angelino, with a couple of other players also featuring on it.
Barcelona, though, fear that Manchester City could command a big-money transfer fee for the full-back, especially if more suitors line up. Having said that, with the La Liga heavyweights touted to sign the likes of Memphis Depay and Georginio Wijnaldum on a Bosman transfer, it remains to be seen if they will have extra money to splash on Angelino. For now, it looks like the 24-year-old is on their radar for a summer move.
