Chelsea are reportedly interested in signing Spanish starlet Raul Moro, who has struggled to carve out a place in the first-team at Lazio.
According to a report from Italian publication La Lazio Siamo Noi, Premier League giants, Chelsea are one among several top European clubs interested in Lazio’s teenage winger Raul Moro.
18-year-old Moro came through the academy of Spanish club Gimnastic before spending a year each with the youth teams of Espanyol and Barcelona. In 2019, the teenager made the switch to Lazio amid lofty expectations but has struggled to break into Simone Inzaghi’s first-team.
Moro made his senior debut for Lazio in a 2-1 defeat to Juventus in the post-lockdown period last season. However, that remains his sole appearance till date. The youngster has been impressing for the capital club’s Primavera outfit though, bagging 11 goals and 3 assists from 19 matches so far.
However, given his lack of first-team minutes, Moro’s camp is considering securing a transfer away from Rome, having seen the impact that Pedro Neto made at Wolves since leaving the Serie A outfit. With the player’s representatives searching for a new club, it seems like there is no shortage of suitors for the 18-year-old.
As per the aforementioned report, Moro is attracting interest from a host of clubs across Europe, with several Premier League teams said to be monitoring him as well, with Chelsea said to be chief among them.
The Blues strengthened their attack heavily in the last summer, bringing in Timo Werner, Kai Havertz and Hakim Ziyech. With Christian Pulisic and Callum Hudson-Odoi already in tow, Frank Lampard’s attacking options are taken care of for the foreseeable future.
However, given that Pulisic has had to deal with recurring injury problems during his time at Stamford Bridge and with Werner and Havertz yet to hit their strides, it is understandable as to why Chelsea would look to add more depth to their attacking ranks.
While Moro might not make an immediate impact at the first-team level, considering that Lampard has not shied away from putting young talents into the spotlight at the club, he may benefit from a move to west London.
Moro has recently been linked with a loan switch to Serie B outfit Salernitana. However, his agent, Junior Minguella, has made it clear that there is no possibility of him moving to the second division outfit on loan. “There is no possibility that he will go to Salerno. Rather there are greater chances of him leaving Lazio,” he said.
Moro’s contract with Lazio runs out in the summer of 2022, meaning he will be available for a bargain price this summer. “If Inzaghi or the club don’t want him, we have top clubs interested in him,” Minguella added. It remains to be seen if Chelsea are among those clubs and if the Blues do launch an attempt to snap him up in the near future.
