Bayern Munich are reportedly eyeing a late move for Chelsea star Callum Hudson-Odoi in an attempt to reinforce their attacking unit.

According to SportBild, as relayed by Ronan Murphy, Bayern Munich seem to have reignited their interest in Chelse attacker Callum Hudson-Odoi. The Bavarians are desperate to add more attacking reinforcements in order to cope with the hectic schedule of the 2020/21 campaign.

Hudson-Odoi was one of Bayern Munich’s prime targets last summer before they eventually settled on loan deals for Ivan Perisic and Philippe Coutinho. However, both of their loan spells have expired at the end of the 2019/20 campaign, leaving Hansi Flick with only three reliable wide attacking options in Leroy Sane, Serge Gnabry and Kingsley Coman.

Coman and Sane’s poor injury record are already well documented so Bayern could be in massive trouble if they fail to sign a new winger in the remaining days of the transfer market. And that is where Hudson-Odoi has come into the fray.

Hudson-Odoi rejected advances from Bayern Munich to prolong his stay at Chelsea, on the insistence of Frank Lampard last summer. But unfortunately, the winger failed to make an impact at Stamford Bridge, often struggling with injuries and lack of game-time.

In fact, the Englishman failed to even muster 1,000 minutes of league action last season. And he is unlikely to get many chances in the new season either, following a summer spending spree that has seen Chelsea sign world-class superstars like Kai Havertz, Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech.

It could see Hudson-Odoi trail behind the likes of Christian Pulisic, Mason Mount as well as the new signings, in the pecking order. Hence, a move away from Stamford Bridge makes a lot of sense for the promising winger, with Bayern Munich appearing as an interesting destination.

Hudson-Odoi may not be able to dethrone the likes of Sane or Gnabry in the starting lineup. But, his presence in the side will give Flick some much-needed depth in the side while the player himself will have the opportunity to win silverware with an FC Bayern side that have already lifted five titles so far this year.

Chelsea, on the other hand, shouldn’t find any difficulties in offloading the academy prospect as Lampard has successfully overhauled his entire offensive unit. The winger’s potential sale could, in fact, help them gain some financial balance following a busy transfer window, although Bayern Munich are likely to only sign him on a temporary contract.
