Arsenal have reportedly offered a three-year deal to soon-to-be free agent Willian who refuses to accept the two-year contract tabled by Chelsea.

According to a report published by Sky Sports, Arsenal are interested in acquiring Willian, who will soon be a free agent as his deal with Chelsea nears expiry.

Willian joined Chelsea from Anzhi Makhachkala in August 2013 in a transfer worth nearly £32 million. By this point, he had spent only half a season in the Russian outfit, but the Blues were too impressed to pass up on him.

In his first season in England, Willian scored four goals and assisted three in 25 appearances. It was an underwhelming tally, and it would go on like this for the rest of his years at Chelsea. The Brazilian never managed to reach double figures in terms of goals or assists, and his best tally came this campaign, with nine goals and seven assists in the league.

Willian has shown signs of edging the world-class category but always seems to fall short. Consequently, Stamford Bridge faithfuls have never really taken a liking to him. The 31-year-old in the last few days of his contract with the Blues and could be heading out as soon as their season calls curtains, most likely after their away trip to Allianz Arena.

There have been rumours of his contract extension with Chelsea, but reports suggest that the club does not want to give him a deal worth more than two years, opposed to a three-year deal Willian wants.

Chelsea have already invested heavily in attacking reinforcements, bringing in Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner. Moreover, there seems to serious interest from the club for German wonderkid Kai Havertz. It seems as the talks between the two parties have reached a saturation point, and other clubs have entered the conversation for his signature.

Of these clubs, Arsenal seem to be in pole position and have reportedly offered a three-year deal to him, exactly what he wanted at Chelsea. This could be a win-win situation for both clubs, and something Willian should definitely consider.

The Gunners have Alexandre Lacazette, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Nicolas Pepe, Edward Nketiah, Gabriel Martinelli and Bukayo Saka among their payroll as first-team attackers. However, apart from Aubameyang, none of them has continuously come up clutch for the clubs in terms of goal contributions.

The problem with that remains that the Gabonese is on his last year of contract and could be on his way out this summer, with Barcelona interested. Additionally, Pepe is yet to justify his humongous price tag, and fans could see a boost in his performances with some competition on the right.

Of course, at 31, this could also be Willian’s chance to spend his last few years in the USA and earn some extra dough, with Inter Miami interested. The Brazilian has a big career decision to make, and it will be interesting to see this transfer story unfold in the coming weeks.
