Everton are reportedly keen on signing Jeremie Boga, but are facing stiff competition in the race to sign the £35 million-rated former Chelsea star.
According to a report by Sky Sports, Jeremie Boga is the subject of interest from Everton, who are eager to bring him back to the Premier League. The former Chelsea winger, who has a £35 million price tag, is also being tailed by Napoli, Borussia Dortmund and Bayer Leverkusen.
Boga spent nine years at Chelsea, a spell which included six years at the academy before he became a part of the infamous loan army, spending a season each at Rennes, Granada and Birmingham City while making just one appearance for his parent club. The player’s stint at Chelsea ended in the summer of 2018, when he joined Sassuolo in a £3.5 million deal.
The 23-year-old has made good progress at Sassuolo over the last couple of seasons and has been enjoying a fine campaign in 2019/20. In 34 Serie A outings, Boga has a solid tally of 11 goals and 4 assists, playing a key role in their chase for Europa League qualification. His exploits have piqued the interest of several clubs, including Premier League outfit Everton.
Currently, Carlo Ancelotti does not have a lot of quality options at his disposal, as far as wingers are concerned. With Richarlison now mostly utilised as a striker, the former Chelsea manager only has the likes of Theo Walcott, Bernard and Alex Iwobi to bank on for the wide areas.
None of those players have managed to perform consistently over the course of their Everton careers, with goal contribution being few and far between. To that end, Boga, who is admired by Ancelotti since his time at Napoli, is a viable target for the Toffees.
The 23-year-old was even briefly linked with former club Chelsea earlier this year but at present, Everton face stiff competition from Napoli, Borussia Dortmund and Bayer Leverkusen in the race to sign the player, who is valued at £35 million by Sassuolo.
Napoli have continued to chase Boga, with Gennaro Gattuso keen on securing his services as well. As far as Borussia Dortmund are concerned, with Manchester United set to make a move for Jadon Sancho, the need to look for possible replacements is understandable.
Meanwhile, Bayer Leverkusen are in a precarious position with respect to the future of Kai Havertz, who is tipped to join Chelsea this summer. Keeping all this in mind, Everton need to move quickly if they are to bring Boga back to the Premier League. What will also determine his final destination is the suitors’ willingness to meet his £35 million valuation. A big transfer battle is set to ensue.
