Transfer News: Arsenal handed boost in Odsonne Edouard pursuit

Arsenal have been handed a boost in pursuit of Odsonne Edouard, with Celtic manager Neil Lennon admitting that there is a chance he could be sold this summer.

As quoted by Daily Star, Neil Lennon seems to have handed Arsenal and other interested parties a boost in the race to sign Odsonne Edouard. The Celtic boss has admitted that the French forward could be on his way out of the club in the summer transfer window if the right offer comes in for him.

Edouard has made exponential progress since first joining Celtic from PSG on loan in the summer of 2017. A year later, the 22-year-old went on to join the Hoops on a permanent deal and he has not looked back since. The 2019/20 season, though, has been one that has put him on the map.

In 45 matches across all competitions, the player has a scintillating tally of 27 goals and 19 assists. His progress has not gone unnoticed, with a number of clubs showing an interest in him. One among these suitors are Arsenal, who seem to be in the market for an attacking reinforcement.

For the longest time, the Gunners have been in a precarious situation due to Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s contract situation. The Arsenal captain in the final year of his deal with the north Londoners and there has been little development surrounding a renewal.

Furthermore, there is some uncertainty surrounding Alexandre Lacazette as well, meaning Arsenal need to keep their options open, especially with Gabriel Martinelli sidelined for the rest of 2020. Edouard, to that end, is the kind of explosive forward who is an ideal target for the Premier League heavyweights.

If groomed properly, the 22-year-old could end up replacing Aubameyang in the long run. On the flip side, if Aubameyang ends up staying, his goals could invariably help Arsenal’s offensive output while offering Mikel Arteta a handy alternative to Lacazette. Now, the Gunners have been handed a boost in his pursuit by Neil Lennon.

As quoted by Daily Star, Lennon said, “It is difficult to say, particularly in this climate currently, that a player is not going anywhere, because everyone has a price. Ideally we don’t want to sell our best players and we will remain steadfast on that. But if an offer comes in then I’m sure the club will consider it and do the best thing possible for the club going forward.”

It has been previously reported that Celtic could demand around the same figure that Arsenal paid to sign Kieran Tierney – £25 million. What now remains to be seen is if that indeed is the case and if so, the Gunners are willing to shell out such a sum to secure Edouard’s services this summer.
