Transfer News: Jesse Lingard not ready for a move away from Manchester United this summer

Jesse Lingard has no intentions of moving away from Manchester United and wants to fight for a place at the club, despite interest from Arsenal and Everton.

According to a report from Metro, Jesse Lingard is desperate to stay at Manchester United and resurrect his career in England.

The 27-year-old has been linked with a move away from Old Trafford, with Everton and Arsenal wanting to secure his services. Lingard is going through the worst phase of his career, and hasn’t been involved directly in a goal in the Premier League in over a year, which includes his 20 appearances this season.

The Englishman was an important part of Mourinho’s team, but has been out of favour under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who has already brought in Bruno Fernandes in Lingard’s position. Moreover, the club looks in a promising position to sign Jack Grealish from Aston Villa, who plays in a similar role.

Arsenal and Everton have been interested in signing Lingard from United as both lack players in that position.

The former do not have the budget to permanently sign Dani Ceballos who is going to cost upwards of €40 million. The latter’s best option in that attacking midfield role is Gylfi Siggurdson, who will turn 31 this year and may not be able to compete with the pace of the Premier League.

Solskjaer has always wanted to complete an overhaul at United, favouring young players who could do a job in more than one position, and Lingard, now 27, does not exactly fit his criteria.

Moreover, the Red Devils need to raise funds before going into the market this summer after signing Fernandes for £47 million. Selling Lingard might fetch them an extra £30 million. They are linked to Jadon Sancho who is going to cost £120 million at the very least.

The report states that the United academy product is not willing to be pushed out of the club, and is ready to fight for a place despite hiring a new agent, which suggested otherwise.

Lingard’s contract expires in June, 2021, and he could leave for free if he does not move out this summer. His chances of making the first-team look slim, however, and this could be his chance to leave the club and join a team like Arsenal or Everton where he could stand a chance of more regular involvement.
