Transfer Rumour: Giovanni Di Lorenzo on Manchester United radar

Manchester United have set their sights on Giovanni Di Lorenzo and have reportedly lodged an enquiry with Napoli for the 26-year-old.

According to a report by Italian publication Corriere dello Sport, Giovanni Di Lorenzo is the subject of interest from Manchester United. The Premier League heavyweights have enquired with Napoli about the 26-year-old Italian international over a move in the summer transfer window.

Giovanni Di Lorenzo joined Napoli from Empoli last summer in a low-money deal. Arriving on the back of a fine two-year spell with the Empolesi, with whom he was a mainstay in the side, the player has only gone from strength to strength at San Paolo.

In fact, over the course of the current season, the 26-year-old Italian international has only missed one game in all competitions, featuring 35 times while chipping in with 2 goals and 7 assists. His exploits for Napoli seem to have caught the attention of Manchester United, who seem to be keen on Di Lorenzo.

The interest from Manchester United, though, comes as a bit of a surprise. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer currently has Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Diogo Dalot at his disposal, with academy youngster Ethan Laird also being touted for a bright future in the first-team setup at Old Trafford.

Amid all this, it is curious as to how Manchester United would fit any new right-back in the squad. Nevertheless, it looks like the Red Devils are intent on signing a right-back, with Thomas Meunier linked with a move as well.

Now, though, Di Lorenzo has emerged as a fresh target to bolster the right side of the defence. In fact, the report claims that Manchester United have already lodged an enquiry with Napoli as they consider a possible move for the 26-year-old in the summer transfer window.

Di Lorenzo, though, might just become an asset for Manchester United, if signed, considering he is adept at playing as a centre-back, left-back as well as out wide in midfield. The Italian international would, therefore, give Solskjaer plenty of options as to how the Norwegian utilises him.

For now, it looks like Giovanni Di Lorenzo could become a possible target for Manchester United in the summer transfer window. Should he become so, it will be interesting to see if the Premier League giants can complete a move for the Italian right-back.
