Inter Milan are reportedly ready to renew their interest in Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud as they look to boost up their attack next season.
As per a report from Italian publication La Gazzetta dello Sport (h/t Daily Mail), Chelsea forward Olivier Giroud has once again emerged as a transfer target for Serie A giants Inter Milan ahead of the summer transfer window.
Giroud, 33, was heavily linked with a transfer to Inter in the January transfer window. A move never materialized back then, but the Nerazzurri are now plotting another attempt to try and sign the Frenchman before the next season kickstarts.
Giroud signed for Chelsea in January 2018 from local rivals Arsenal and has been a useful addition to the West London outfit. Till date, the 33-year-old has featured 76 times for the Blues, scoring 21 goals and setting up 13 more.
The 2019-20 campaign though, has been a difficult one for Giroud. The 2018 World Cup winner struggled for game time in the first half of the season under Frank Lampard, with Tammy Abraham firmly establishing himself as the first-choice.
However, the Englishman’s injury troubles over the second half of the campaign saw Giroud make his way back into Lampard’s plans and has done fairly well in the chances he has been afforded. The 33-year-old has made 13 appearances this term, scoring three goals in the process.
But, with his contract set to expire at the end of the season, Giroud’s future remains a subject of transfer speculation with Inter Milan now plotting a summer swoop for the France international. The Nerazzurri are staring at the possibility of losing Lautaro Martinez, with Barcelona interested in the Argentine international.
Moreover, with Alexis Sanchez’s loan deal unlikely to be converted into a permanent transfer, Inter will have a depleted look next term, should Martinez also end up leaving. To that end, manager Antonio Conte is eyeing a reunion with Giroud, while also planning a move for Arsenal captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
However, Inter Milan will have to battle with fellow Serie A outfit Lazio for the signing of Giroud, with the Italian capital club also keen on the Frenchman. It remains to be seen what the future holds for Giroud, but one thing is certain – should he decide to leave Chelsea, there will be no shortage of suitors for his services.
