Bayern Munich are ready to pursue Chelsea winger Willian this summer, after failing to lure Callum Hudson-Odoi to Bavaria.

According to Telegraph, as relayed by The Sun, Willian has emerged as the latest target for Bayern Munich. The Chelsea winger has been identified as the ideal alternative for Callum Hudson-Odoi. And with his contract expiring at the end of the season, the Bundesliga giants could complete a free transfer for the Brazilian in the summer.

Hudson-Odoi was heavily linked with a move to Bayern at the start of last year. He was being identified as a long-term replacement for Arjen Robben. However, the move fell through, and the player ended up signing a contract extension at Chelsea.

Bayern have also been linked with a few other Premier League stars, including Leroy Sane. But, the Manchester City winger picked up an injury at the start of the season. As a result, the Bavarians had to settle for the services of Philippe Coutinho, who joined on loan from FC Barcelona.

However, Coutinho hasn’t really been able to make the desired impact after arriving in the Bundesliga. And following the emergence of Thomas Muller under Hansi Flick, the Brazilian has lost his significance in the first-team, though the injuries to Kingsley Coman and Ivan Perisic have somehow helped him earn playing opportunities.

Coming back to Willian, he has been one of Chelsea’s most important players this season. While there was a lot of hype surrounding Hudson-Odoi and Christian Pulisic during the start of the campaign, it is Willian who has emerged as arguably the most consistent Chelsea attacker after Tammy Abraham.

Indeed, Willian has been involved in ten goals in 28 Premier League matches. Although it hasn’t helped them compete for the league title, the Blues are still leading fifth-placed Manchester United by three points and are only trailing Leicester City by five points, with ten matches yet to be played.

That being said, the Brazilian’s contract at Stamford Bridge expires at the end of the season. And this could serve as a massive blow for Chelsea. He will not only be available for free in the summer, but his potential departure would also create a massive void in the offensive department.

For Bayern, however, the addition of Willian makes a lot of sense. The ex-Anzhi forward could offer a lot of experience to the table, especially with Perisic set to return to Inter Milan at the end of the season.

Moreover, his direct style of play tunes in well with Flick’s new-look Bayern Munich side that has appeared much more effective in front of goal. Hence, the Bavarians should try their best to secure the services of Willian in the summer, though they are expected to meet strong resistance not only from Chelsea but also Tottenham Hotspur.
