Transfer News: Donyell Malen on the radar of former club Arsenal

Arsenal are reportedly interested in bringing back former star Donyell Malen, who is currently plying his trade for PSV, in a €56 million deal in the summer.

French publication Le 10 Sport have revealed that Arsenal are considering the prospect of a return for former star Donyell Malen. The Gunners seem to be preparing for life without Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and are eyeing a summer move for the Dutch international.

Pursuing Malen will cost Arsenal a lot and will sting the club as well, given the fact that he was offloaded for lower than a millian euros. PSV are likely to demand a fee of €56 million for Malen, which is more than 50 times the amount Arsenal received while letting him go to Netherlands.

Donyell Malen spent two years in the academy setup at Arsenal but failed to step up and record a senior appearance at the club. The same Malen has been on fire this season at PSV, with a record of 17 goals and 9 assists in 25 appearances in all competitions so far, piquing Arsenal’s interest.

Arsenal have one of the best strike forces on paper, with Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang as quality options for Mikel Arteta. Add to that, Eddie Nketiah and Gabriel Martinelli’s rise and the Gunners look sorted for the future. But, the prospect of missing out on European football could put a question mark on Aubameyang’s future at the club.

Aubameyang is also unlikely to be convinced with just Europa League football, especially with the likes of Barcelona and Inter Milan keeping an eye on developments. Lacazette hasn’t been on form, leaving just Martinelli as the in-form forward.

Donyell Malen has already produced the goods at PSV and could be enticed with the prospect of returning to his former club in order to prove his worth at Arsenal. But, the stumbling block could be the €56 million transfer fee that has been touted to be enough money to convince PSV to part ways with Malen.

The 21-year-old could be the ideal long-term replacement for Aubameyang. But, to spend the aforementioned fee would depend largley on how much they are able to recoup from Aubameyang’s potential sale along with the transfer budget that is made available by the club.
