Manchester United are reportedly leading Chelsea in the race to sign Jadon Sancho, who is valued at £100 million by Borussia Dortmund.
According to a report by Sky Sports, Manchester United are in the front seat in the chase for Borussia Dortmund star Jadon Sancho. The English international, who is valued at £100 million by the Bundesliga outfit, is also being tailed by Chelsea.
Jadon Sancho took a huge gamble to call it quits at Manchester City aged just 17, choosing to leave the shores of England to join German giants Borussia Dortmund. Nearly three years on, and the decision has paid off handsomely, with the teenage sensation paving the way for several other English youngsters to pursue their careers overseas.
The 19-year-old has been in stunning form since the start of last season, when he had established himself as a regular in the first-team setup. In fact, during this period, Sancho is one of just three players to have scored and assisted 20 goals each. His exploits have invariably caught the attention of one of the biggest clubs in the world, with Manchester United interested.
Manchester United bolstered the wide areas last summer by signing Daniel James from Swansea City. However, the Red Devils still lack a consistent option for the right wing slot, someone who could provide a genuine creative and goalscoring threat from the right side of the attack.
This is where Sancho comes in. The English international has proven his credentials at one of the best clubs in the world, in the tough environs of the Bundesliga. He is, thus, a viable target for Manchester United, who could help Ole Gunnar Solskjaer boost his creative options immensely while also adding a major goal threat, should they secure his services.
Manchester United, though, face competition from Chelsea, who have been heavily linked with the Dortmund star as well, and for good reason. Pedro has regressed considerably, while Willian is in the final months of his stint at Stamford Bridge, with a renewal not on the cards just yet.
Having said that, Chelsea have bolstered their attack this week by confirming the agreement to sign Hakim Ziyech from Ajax in the summer. Therefore, it will be interesting to see if the Blues choose to strengthen their attack further by making a move for Sancho as well.
Manchester United, though, are now leading the race to sign Sancho. Dortmund have placed a £100 million price tag on him, which might not necessarily prove to be a hurdle for United. What will also come as a boost for the Red Devils is that local rivals Manchester City are not interested in re-signing Sancho.
All the cards seems to be stacked in favour of Manchester United, as far as the race to sign Jadon Sancho is concerned. It now remains to be seen if a £100 million summer move sees the light of the day.
