Transfer Rumour: Real Madrid weighing up summer raid on PSG for Kylian Mbappe

Real Madrid are reportedly weighing up a summer assault on PSG to sign Kylian Mbappe, who could cost as much as €300 million.

According to a report by Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo, Real Madrid are planning to step up their efforts to secure the services of Kylian Mbappe. Los Blancos‘ interest has piqued following the touchline run-in between the French attacker and Thomas Tuchel this past weekend.

Mbappe has taken little time to establish himself as one of the best players in the world following his breakthrough at AS Monaco a few years ago. Since then, the 21-year-old has won trophies galore and has already reached the pinnacle of international football, having lifted the World Cup with France in 2018.

However, since joining PSG, the player’s attitude problems have also been rather glaring, with the latest instance of the same coming this past weekend, when he had a dispute on the touchline with manager Thomas Tuchel after he was substituted in the Ligue 1 game against Montpellier. This incident has now piqued the interest of Real Madrid further.

Real Madrid have been linked with Mbappe ever since he skyrocketed to fame while still at Monaco. Los Blancos were unable to land him back then, as he opted to join PSG instead. However, the links have not stopped since then, with the Spanish giants even having to formally deny approaching him for a transfer two years ago.

If Mundo Deportivo is to be believed now, Real Madrid are once again interested in Mbappe, with his run-in with Tuchel giving them the required impetus to now plot a summer move. Add to it the fact that the French international has not been open to the prospect of renewing terms with PSG, where his current deal runs through to June 2022, and the uncertainty has only grown.

PSG are ready to make Mbappe the best paid player at the club, but the Frenchman is waiting to see if Les Parisiens can add the UEFA Champions League to their trophy cabinet. The latest episode, though, has created an unsettled nature around his position in the French capital.

Real Madrid do not really appear to be in any need of making attacking reinforcements, with Eden Hazard making a decent start to life at the Bernabeu. With Rodrygo Goes and Vinicius Junior also at Zinedine Zidane’s disposal other than Lucas Vazquez, Brahim Diaz and Marco Asensio, it is unclear how Mbappe would fit in the first-team, unless he is seen as Karim Benzema’s long-term replacement.

Real Madrid, though, will proceed with caution, as Florentino Perez does not want his relationship with PSG to sour, as per Mundo Deportivo. Should Los Blancos then move on to launch the offensive for the 21-year-old, the operation will be expensive, with the player likely to cost around €300 million.

It will now be interesting to see how the equation between Tuchel and Mbappe is in the coming weeks and months. For now, it looks like Real Madrid could be set to make a move to sign Mbappe in the summer transfer window.
