Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is hopeful of having Scott McTominay available for selection as Manchester United take on Aston Villa at Old Trafford nn Sunday.
Manchester United have a window of opportunity to close the gap on the likes of Manchester City and Chelsea while also going up as high as 5th if they manage to win against Aston Villa on Sunday. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is hopeful of having his star midfielder Scott McTominay fit in time to feature at Old Trafford on Sunday.
The entire first-team squad got a well deserved rest during the midweek and a pass from a gruesome away trip to Astana in the Europa League. Solskjaer should have his usual suspects at the back available and line up against Aston Villa. Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof should start with David de Gea in goal.
Brandon Williams seems to have overtaken others as the first-choice at left-back and should start again in the league.
The midfield is a problem area for Solskjaer. But, the manager iterated in his pre-match conference that the Scottish international might just be fit in time to feature.
“We hope Scotty will be back as soon as possible, but he’s also been back home and I’ve not seen him. Maybe [he will be fit to face] Spurs but hopefully for Sunday.”
Fred has stepped up well in the absence of Paul Pogba and while Solskjaer appreciated the same, he also shed light on Pogba’s fitness and potential return to action.
“Paul is stepping up his recovery and let’s see how soon he’ll be match fit and available. We want him back as soon as possible. Sunday? No. I can’t say now as I’ve not been home and seen him. Let’s see where he’s at when he comes back and he starts training with us.”
Fred and McTominay should be the midfield pairing. There is a contentious position in attack, with Juan Mata and Andreas Pereira jostling for the number 10 role. Pereira has been awful in recent times and Solskjaer could drop the Brazilian in favour of Mata.
Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial and Daniel James complete the attack and the starting eleven.
Predicted Starting XI: De Gea, Wan-Bissaka, Maguire, Lindelof, Williams, McTominay, Fred, James, Mata, Rashford, Martial
