Arsenal and Manchester United are reportedly interested in Juventus star Merih Demiral and are set to have scouts in attendance when Turkey face Iceland.
Bleacher Report journalist Dean Jones has stated that Premier League giants Arsenal and Manchester United are set to have scouts in attendance during Turkey vs Iceland, with Merih Demiral reportedly the man in the spotlight. The Turkish international seems to be out-of-favour at Juventus.
Dean Jones further added that Demiral could be on his way out of Juventus in January itself, with the defender not really able to get regular minutes under his belt in Turin so far this season supported by the fact that Juventus will look to cash in on some fringe stars to clear out the squad and in order to balance the books to comply with FPP.
Merih Demiral will be watched by Arsenal and Man Utd scouts when Turkey host Iceland on Thurs.
There’s a growing chance of him leaving Juventus in Jan.— Dean Jones (@DeanJonesBR) November 13, 2019
Merih Demiral played just one season in Serie A, with Sassuolo bringing him in on loan from Turkish side Alanyaspor. Sassuolo made the move permanent in the summer of 2019 but Demiral ended up at Juventus just days later, with the Sassuolo booking a profit on the Turkish international straight away.
Demiral has not been frozen out at Juventus per se, with the player being in the Matchday Squad for every Serie A game so far this season. But, he has featured in just one league game for Juventus, starting and completing the 90 minutes in a 2-1 win over Hellas Verona.
Perhaps, Matthijs de Ligt’s arrival a couple of weeks within Demiral’s has somewhat relegated the 21-year-old to the bench. But, the defender is unlikely to sit on the bench for long, especially with clubs like Arsenal and Manchester United lining up for him.
Arsenal do not have reliable central defensive options apart from Sokratis, with summer arrival David Luiz also contributing to the fair number of errors the Gunners have made at the back.
Manchester United seem to have found their centre-back partnership for now in Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof. But, the Swede has been prone to errors, especially in the air and in the box, which are places that a central defender is expected to dominate.
Demiral has already proven his acumen in Serie A with Sassuolo and has been impressing the onlookers while representing Turkey, especially in the Euro 2020 qualifiers, with the nation sitting in front of France in their Group at this point of time.
According to Daily Mail, Juventus are also looking to book a profit on Demiral, despite having not given him much time on the pitch, with the Serie A giants valuing him at £34 million. The price tag may have deterred AC Milan from making any potential moves for now. But, Manchester United will not be fazed by the asking price and Arsenal could splash in January to strengthen the team.
The Daily Mail report also adds that Demiral is open to a move to England but would prefer to sit down with Maurizio Sarri and figure out if there is a future for him at Juventus.
There are a lot of players that could be heading out at Juventus come January. And right now, chances are high that Merih Demiral will be one of them, if things don’t improve for him at the club.
