Manchester United legend Roy Keane has advised Marcus Rashford to learn from Manchester City superstar Raheem Sterling to fulfill his potential.
As quoted by Daily Mirror, Roy Keane has offered English international Marcus Rashford a piece of advice. The Manchester United legend has suggested the club’s star striker to learn from compatriot and Manchester City superstar Raheem Sterling to become a fearsome attacking proposition.
Marcus Rashford broke into the Manchester United first-team setup in the second half of the 2015-16 season, with Louis van Gaal introducing him in an emergency situation. But, the then teenager ended up making such a rapid impact, scoring in just about every debut, that he became a regular by the time the season came to a close.
Three years on, he is one of the ever-presents in the side, but has been unable to become a prolific striker so far. The sub-par scoring record, though, could also be partly, if not largely, attributed to his constant shuffling of positions under different Manchester United managers.
Now one of the top dogs for Manchester United under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, which can be sensed from the bumper deal he signed earlier this year, Rashford has started the 2019-20 season in mixed fashion. While he does have two goals in four games, the Englishman has also struggled in the last couple of outings.
Against Southampton, a visible lack of confidence affected his performance. And, Manchester United legend Roy Keane has suggested Rashford learned a thing or two from Manchester City star Raheem Sterling in order to improve his game and become more consistent.
“We said before the game he’s [Sterling] affecting games over the last couple of years. We spoke about Rashford, Rashford, sometimes the best example for any player is one of their team-mates.
“Rashford can learn so much from Sterling, whether training with him or watching him at close quarters. That’s a great lesson and hopefully he is picking up them tips that we did see in the second half.”
Keane does have a point in that Sterling has become one of the most consistent attacking forces in world football in the last couple of seasons. Under the tutelage of Pep Guardiola at Manchester City, Sterling has developed his game manifold and has become a well-rounded attacker.
If Rashford manages to take a cue from his compatriot, Manchester United could have found quite a solution to their problems of inconsistencies in attack. For now, a consistent Rashford is the need of the hour for the stuttering Red Devils and it remains to be seen if the star striker can return to his best post the international break.
