Manchester United star Paul Pogba’s agent Mino Raiola has reportedly made a last minute plea to get a green-light for a late Real Madrid switch.
According to a report by Spanish publication MARCA, Paul Pogba’s camp are making a last-ditch effort for him to seal a move away from Manchester United before the September 2 deadline. Mino Raiola is “working tirelessly” to get an all clear for a switch to Real Madrid, although a late move is unlikely.
Pogba’s future has been mired in uncertainty all through the summer owing to Manchester United’s constantly declining fortunes. To make matters more concerning, the fact that the Frenchman has admitted that he is keen on a new challenge has hardly helped United’s bid to keep hold of their prized possession.
Manchester United’s loss could be Real Madrid’s gain, with Zinedine Zidane reportedly eager to secure the services of the 26-year-old before the summer transfer window slams shut. And, the interest in Pogba does make sense, with midfield in need of bolstering.
Beyond the first-choice trio of Luka Modric, Toni Kroos and Casemiro, Zidane has very little in way of reliable options. While James Rodriguez is staying put at Real Madrid, he is not fancied much by his manager. Isco is a viable backup, but is on the sidelines, leaving just Federico Valverde as the other option at Zidane’s disposal.
Among the regulars, while Kroos is showing that last season’s struggles were but a mere blip, Modric is at the twilight of his career and will need succeeding. As a result, a top class midfield recruitment is the need of the hour for Real Madrid.
Of late, Bruno Fernandes has been touted to be on his way to the Bernabeu, according to Fiorentina sporting director Daniele Prade. But, it appears as if there could be a glimmer of hope in pursuit of Manchester United superstar Pogba.
Real Madrid had already been boosted by the player’s decision to remain coy on the subject of his Manchester United future in recent comments. And now, his agent Mino Raiola is making a last minute plea to Manchester United to pave the way for Pogba to seal a move to the Spanish capital.
But, Real Madrid recognise that securing a deal for Pogba is nearly impossible at this late juncture in the transfer window. As a result, they are prepared to wait for the summer in order to finally swoop the French international away from Manchester United, just like they did with the acquisition of Eden Hazard from Chelsea in June.
By next summer, Pogba will have just one year remaining on his deal with Manchester United, which could force Manchester United to cash in on Pogba, especially with the report suggesting that Raiola is adamant his client will not sign a new deal at Old Trafford. Meanwhile, Los Blancos are also laying down some contingencies, although it remains to be seen if their main plan succeeds.
