Real Madrid star Keylor Navas is reportedly pushing for a move to PSG, with Los Blancos eyeing Frenchman Alphonse Areola as part of the deal.
According to a report by Spanish publication MARCA, Keylor Navas is poised to complete a move to PSG this week, with Alphonse Areola heading the other way. The Costa Rican international will sign a three-year deal with Les Parisiens, who will shell out €15 million for his services, with Real Madrid also acquiring Alphonse Areola for the remainder of the season.
Keylor Navas joined Real Madrid in the summer of 2014 on the back of a scintillating World Cup campaign with the giant killing Costa Rican national side. Over the last five years, the Costa Rican shot stopper has duly delivered at the Bernabeu, amassing 162 appearances while also winning 11 trophies, including three straight UEFA Champions League titles.
But, with Thibaut Courtois confirmed as the Real Madrid no. 1 by Zinedine Zidane, Navas has naturally grown disillusioned at the Bernabeu, having also played second-fiddle to the Belgian for large parts of last season.
As a result, Navas has been touted for a move away from the Spanish capital, with Manchester United previously being linked with him. And, even though Zidane has insisted that he remains an important player for Real Madrid despite the decline in stature, the experienced goalkeeper has been pushing for an exit in search of regular game time.
This has put Real Madrid in a spot of bother, with Andriy Lunin and Luca Zidane both leaving on loan, joining Real Valladolid and Racing Santander, respectively. Navas’ departure would thus, leave Zidane with Courtois as the only recognised custodian, which is why they are desperately seeking a solution before sanctioning a move for Navas.
Everton goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg had reportedly emerged as a shock target for Real Madrid and for good reasons, with the Dutchman being a short-term solution before Lunin and Zidane returned. But, Los Blancos are now seeking an alternative in Alphonse Areola.
Navas’ aforementioned move away from Real Madrid is set to take him to PSG, who have reached an agreement with the player over a three-year deal. The 32-year-old will pocket €6 million per year in the French capital, with Les Parisiens shelling out €15 million for his services. And, as part of the deal for Navas, Los Blancos are seeking a direct solution by asking for Areola.
But, instead of proposing a direct swap, Real Madrid only want Areola for the remainder of the season, considering they see a bright future for Lunin at the Bernabeu. Areola though, might not be coming off as a winner in this deal, with Navas viewed as the new no. 1 at Parc des Princes, seeing as Thomas Tuchel refused to confirm the Frenchman as his team’s no. 1.
Having said that, the report suggests that Real Madrid are inching closer to reaching an agreement with PSG over their proposed deal, meaning Areola could be set to make his way to the Bernabeu. It now remains to be seen if this deal can be concluded quickly, with Keylor Navas primed to make his way to PSG this week.
