Tottenham could dramatically finish their transfer business after making an offer to take Philippe Coutinho on loan from Barcelona.

Tottenham’s transfer business has received far fetched criticism this summer due to a general lack of signings. The North London club are set to end their window sensationally after making an offer to take Philippe Coutinho on loan from Barcelona, as reported by The Times. A coup like this could make this summer window a successful one for Spurs and nicely build-up for the upcoming season.

The Barcelona attacker had been the subject of transfer speculation this summer after an unsuccessful 18 months at the Camp Nou. He has been on the recieving end of some intense criticism from experts. Moreover, he also faced boos from his fans at Barcelona as the Brazilian was expected to leave this summer.

Barcelona’s open pursuit of former player and PSG superstar Neymar also directly led to many believing Coutinho might be included in a deal. However, Neymar’s hunt has gone cold and Barcelona, though a little late in the window, have sanctioned a loan move to the Premier League.

Tottenham have taken notice of this new development and have wasted no time in making an offer to take him on loan from Barcelona for the season. Mauricio Pochettino will be hoping to add quality to their attack and Coutinho could be the man to add that. The Brazilian could also come back to the Premier League and find his lost form once more.

Spurs were thought to be in pursuit of Giovani Lo Celso from Real Betis. The Spanish side’s demands for the midfielder had put off Spurs chairman Daniel Levy as they failed to agree to terms for the Argentine. Additionally with the future of Danish midfielder Christian Eriksen also in doubt, as Manchester United are among the sides looking to make a late push, the Coutinho bid makes sense.

Arsenal were also thought to be interested in taking Coutinho on loan for the season. The Gunners made the offer earlier than Spurs did, but there is a general understanding Coutinho is uninterested in such a move. However, its still mostly unknown if he’d be open to joining Tottenham, although there is an offer on the table for him.

There’s not much time left in the window as Spurs need to act fast in agreeing to terms with Barcelona and Coutinho. If Coutinho is to reject Spurs, then other clubs are expected to swoop in at the last minute. Manchester United might look for someone to replace Paul Pogba as the Frenchman’s future remains uncertain. As things stand, Spurs are thought to be in the driver’s seat, for now.

Coutinho might fit into Spurs and their manager Mauricio Pochettino’s philosophy. He could rekindle his lost form and play a vital role for Spurs in the coming season. It remains to be seen if Tottenham can pull this one off and end their transfer window on a high note.
