Bundesliga outfit Hertha Berlin are reportedly closing in on the capture of Chelsea youngster Daishawn Redan, who is set to cost around £5 million.
According to The Sun, Hertha Berlin are in pole position to prise away Daishawn Redan from Chelsea this summer. The youngster was monitored by West Ham United, Everton and Leicester City. But, it is believed that the Bundesliga club has already discussed terms and talks regarding a potential transfer will continue this week. Redan will likely cost around £5 million.
Borussia Monchengladbach were also keen on Redan this summer and were even willing to offer £8.5 million for his services. However, it seems the striker is more attracted to Berlin’s offer of giving him a major role in the first-team next season.
A product of the famed Ajax youth academy, Redan moved to Chelsea in the summer of 2017, after initially impressing in the Dutch youth league. He notably netted ten goals in just seven matches in the U17 Eredivisie during the 2016/17 campaign.
And the 18-year-old has continued his blistering run of form upon his arrival at Stamford Bridge. The Dutchman netted 19 goals across all youth competitions during his debut campaign at the club. And last season, he scored an impressive five goals in just eight matches in the UEFA Youth League. He was also involved in 20 matches in the Premier League 2 last term, plundering five goals.
That being said, it’s unlikely Redan will be able to make a breakthrough into the starting lineup despite Chelsea’s transfer ban as well as the departures of Gonzalo Higuain and Alvaro Morata.
Although the newly appointed Frank Lampard will likely revolve his squad around young players, much of his focus will concentrate on the development of Tammy Abraham and Callum Hudson-Odoi, although the latter has been linked with a move to Bayern Munich.
Therefore, a move away from Stamford Bridge makes sense, especially to Hertha, where he will have a glorious opportunity of making his breakthrough into professional football. The club from the capital are preparing for life without Vedad Ibisevic, who is already in the final phase of his career and will be in need of reinforcements in the striking department.
Redan, in that regard, could be an excellent choice. The youngster can provide backup to Davie Selke in the number nine slot. But, he might also have a shot at starting alongside the ex-Werder Bremen forward, should the newly appointed Ante Covin opt for a 4-4-2 formation next season. Nonetheless, Hertha is, without a doubt, an ideal destination for the Chelsea sensation as he seeks to continue his progress next season.
