Real Madrid are reportedly among eight clubs to submit an offer to sign Dutch international Donny van de Beek from Ajax this summer.
According to a report by Spanish publication AS, Donny van de Beek has his fair share of suitors in this summer’s transfer window. The Dutch international is courting interest from as many as eight top European clubs, one of which has come from Real Madrid, although the Ajax midfielder is their third preference.
Donny van de Beek has skyrocketed to fame on the back of a truly wonderful campaign with Ajax. As the Dutch giants made waves in Eredivisie and Europe, a number of players were key figures in their success, with van de Beek making some important contributions over the course of the season.
The 22-year-old featured 57 times for Ajax this past season, with an impressive return of 17 goals and 13 assists to boot. Understandably, he has become a hot property in the summer transfer window, with the who’s who of European football being linked with him. The most prominent among his suitors are Real Madrid.
The La Liga heavyweights have been on a roll in the summer transfer window, having embarked on a squad overhaul in the wake of a turbulent 2018-19 campaign. While a number of positions have been duly addressed, midfield remains an area of concern for Real Madrid.
With Luka Modric visibly approaching the end of his best days and Toni Kroos experiencing perhaps his worst ever season, Zinedine Zidane needs to refresh his options, especially with Dani Ceballos also being heavily linked with a summer exit from Real Madrid.
To that end, the Real Madrid boss has reportedly identified a number of candidates to bolster his squad’s midfield this summer. As per numerous reports, Los Blancos are already in talks with Manchester United over a move for Paul Pogba, who is their primary target.
Christian Eriksen is also an option for the Spanish giants, while Donny van de Beek is seen as an alternative to Pogba. And, Real Madrid seem to be pressing ahead with their interest in the Dutch international, having made an offer for him over a possible summer move.
The Merengues though, are not alone in their pursuit of van de Beek, with the report suggesting that as many as eight clubs, including Real Madrid, have submitted their offers for him, although these suitors have not been mentioned by AS. But, certain claims did suggest that the 22-year-old was also open to a move to either Manchester United or Tottenham.
The young midfielder, however, has his reservations over a move to Real Madrid owing to concerns over regular game time. Indeed, if Modric and Kroos are still at the club beyond the summer, it is likely that van de Beek will have to share game time with the duo, which could hamper his progress.
Meanwhile, as iterated earlier, the Dutch international is the third preference for Real Madrid, and it remains to be seen if they advance their interest in him in the weeks to come. For now, Donny van de Beek remains a viable option for Real Madrid, who would favour signing Paul Pogba.
