Transfer Rumour: Bayern Munich lodge €80 million bid with Juventus for Paulo Dybala

Bayern Munich have reportedly tabled an €80 million bid for Juventus forward Paulo Dybala, who is also being targeted by Manchester United.

According to a report by Italian publication Corriere dello Sport, Bayern Munich are interested in signing Paulo Dybala in the summer transfer window. The Bundesliga champions have lodged a bid worth €80 million for the Juventus superstar, who is also a summer target for Manchester United.

A big summer transfer window beckons Bayern Munich, who have seen an ageing squad struggle to muster up quite the challenge for the UEFA Champions League in recent seasons. With veteran wingers Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery departing this summer, Die Roten need to enter the market for attacking reinforcements.

Bayern Munich have also seen James Rodriguez return to Real Madrid after the end of his two-year loan spell at Allianz Arena. Thus, bolstering attack rightly appears to be a priority and to that end, Dybala could be a player who could be the ideal replacement for James in the first-team setup while also giving Niko Kovac an option for the right wing slot.

Dybala though, will need to retrace to the version of the two previous seasons after struggling to be a prolific customer in the final third for Juventus this season. The Argentine had an underwhelming return of 10 goals and 6 assists in 42 appearances this past season, something he can certainly improve on judging by his tallies from the campaigns gone by.

Bayern Munich, meanwhile, are not alone in Dybala’s pursuit, with Manchester United also in the race to sign the 25-year-old. The Red Devils too, will view the summer transfer window as a make or break situation if they are to return to being contenders for the top four, let alone genuine Premier League title challengers.

The right wing slot remains the Achilles Heel for Manchester United, who have struggled to impose themselves from the flank for some years now. While Dybala ideally prefers operating from central positions, he can also pose a threat from a position on the right side of the attack.

Alternatively, with Romelu Lukaku being linked with a move away from Old Trafford, Dybala could also be a solution to play as part of the strike partnership, playing off the main striker. Either way, the Argentinean is a viable target for Manchester United to pursue.

United though, will need to step up their pursuit of the Juventus star, with Bayern Munich lodging an €80 million bid with the Bianconeri for the player. While Die Roten’s offer is still some way off the Serie A champions’ €100 million valuation, the fact that a bid has already been tabled should put Manchester United on their toes.

The Red Devils already do not have Champions League football on offer and the only way they can hope to beat Bayern Munich is if they outbid them. It now remains to be seen if Manchester United can usurp Bayern in the race to sign Dybala, or if the Bundesliga champions swoop him away instead.
