Official: Milan Skriniar signs new four-year deal with Inter Milan

Milan Skriniar, who was a target for Manchester United, has reached an agreement with Inter Milan over a deal that will see him remain at San Siro till 2023.

Inter Milan have made an official statement to announce that they have reached an agreement with Milan Skriniar to extend his stay with the club. The Slovak has signed a new four-year deal with the Nerazzurri that will see him remain at San Siro till June 30, 2024, thus rebuffing interest from Manchester United.

Milan Skriniar has come a long way since joining Inter Milan from Sampdoria in the summer of 2017, with Gianluca Caprari moving the other way as part of the deal. In his two seasons at San Siro, the Slovak has missed just three Serie A games, which only seeks to showcase his importance at the club.

But, his agent Mithat Halis had recently stoked the fire surrounding his supposed uncertain future at Inter Milan when he claimed that Barcelona and Real Madrid were interested in Skriniar. And, the list of suitors in pursuit of the 24-year-old only increased when Manchester United started being linked with him.

Defence has been a major area of concern for Manchester United for quite some time now, with Jose Mourinho adamant that the club needed to sign a top class centre-back last summer. In the end, he did not have his way before being dismissed from the top job back in December.

But, United’s struggles at the back – apart from Victor Lindelof, no other central defender has managed to remain consistent – have seen Mourinho being vindicated, with the Red Devils in serious need of bolstering the heart of the defence. Skriniar is thus, one of several centre-backs who have been linked with Manchester United lately.

But, the Premier League heavyweights have been jolted in their pursuit of the 24-year-old, who has put pen to paper on a new long-term deal with Inter Milan. The contract will run through to the summer of 2023, with one year being added to the original terms. And, Skriniar expressed his happiness at continuing with the Nerazzurri.

“It’s a great milestone for me, I’m very happy to have extended my contract with Inter and I’m proud that I’ll be able to wear this shirt in the future. I want to thank the Club and the fans for the confidence that they’ve always shown in me.”

Manchester United’s hopes of signing Milan Skriniar seem to have ended, with the Slovakian international committed to Inter Milan. It now remains to be seen which defender they turn their attention towards, with Harry Maguire another top target.
