Transfer Rumour: Nelson Semedo considering Barcelona future amid Premier League interest

Barcelona defender Nelson Semedo is reportedly considering a summer exit from Camp Nou amid interest from the Premier Leaue and Serie A.

As per claims by MARCA, Nelson Semedo is weighing up the possibility of calling it quits at Camp Nou in the summer transfer window. The Barcelona defender is eager to secure a more prominent role next season, and is being pursued by clubs from the Premier League and Serie A.

Nelson Semedo joined Barcelona in the summer of 2017 from SL Benfica, rated as one of the brightest full-back prospects in Europe at the time. The start to life at Camp Nou was far from easy though, for the Portuguese defender, who made only 36 appearances in all competitions last term.

That tally has increased in the current campaign to 44, but the fact remains that Semedo has been sharing game time with Sergi Roberto. The 25-year-old has only started 30 of those games, featuring in just 47 percent of the minutes for Barcelona this season.

The reality of his predicament is not lost on Semedo either, and as per the report, he is considering his Barcelona future ahead of the summer transfer window. The Portuguese international wants to play at a club where he will be a regular name in the first-team, as he gets set to enter the best years of his career.

There is no dearth of interest in Semedo, according to MARCA, who claim that clubs from Serie A and the Premier League are monitoring his situation. The catch though, is that the clubs have not been mentioned, so it still remains to be seen which sides come forth with their interest.

As far as Barcelona are concerned, the loss of Semedo could be mitigated from within the club, with Sergi Roberto already a regular. In addition to the Spaniard, Barcelona B player Moussa Wague is a fine prospect at Camp Nou, with the Senegalese already featuring twice for the first-team as well.

Emerson, who joined Barcelona in January before being loaned out to Real Betis, could also come into the scheme of things, should Semedo leave. Thus, the Portuguese defender’s departure might not hurt the reigning La Liga champions much.

Instead, his sale could help Barcelona fund moves for the likes of Matthijs de Ligt and Antoine Griezmann, with the report stressing that the two transfers will set the club back considerably. It now remains to be seen if Semedo indeed ends up calling it quits at Camp Nou in the summer and if so, where his next destination is.
