Transfer News: PSG ready to offer David de Gea £90 million package

Manchester United superstar David de Gea is reportedly set to be offered a huge £90 million package to join PSG in the summer transfer window.

If an exclusive report by Daily Star is to be believed, Manchester United are at risk of having to let David de Gea leave in the summer transfer window. The Spanish goalkeeper is being pursued by PSG, who are willing to hand him a long-term deal that will be worth an astonishing £90 million over the duration of the contract.

David de Gea has enjoyed a spectacular time at Manchester United, where he has gone from being a scrawny, yet promising talent to one of the best goalkeepers in the world. For years, the Spaniard has been the biggest asset at Old Trafford, having been named the club’s Player of the Year a staggering four times.

But, the last twelve months have seen his image take a beating. The 28-year-old was first surprisingly poor at the 2018 FIFA World Cup, and the 2018-19 season has seen him uncharacteristically struggle, having made a career high four mistakes that have directly led to goals conceded by Manchester United in the Premier League.

The latest such mistake saw the Red Devils being held to a 1-1 draw by Chelsea this past weekend. But, as per the report, the goalkeeping superstar’s stock has not fallen much, with PSG keen on snapping him up from Manchester United in the summer transfer window.

The Ligue 1 champions currently have Alphonse Areola and Gianluigi Buffon as the goalkeeping options. But, while Buffon is reaching his sell-by date, Areola has been inconsistent during his time with the PSG first-team setup. The move for De Gea thus, makes sense for Les Parisiens, who could have a long-term solution in goal in the Spaniard.

PSG’s bid to secure the services of De Gea in the summer will further be boosted by the fact that contract negotiations between the player and Manchester United have reportedly hit a snag. And, taking advantage of the situation the French giants are willing to offer the 28-year-old a long-term deal with a huge £90 million package.

The deal would thus, see De Gea pocket £450,000-a-week, which will more than double his current £200,000 per week terms with Manchester United. And, while the Premier League heavyweights are keen on keeping hold of their prized possession, the fact that Jan Oblak is reportedly being lined up as a replacement means they could be open to a sale, if need be.

The report indeed adds that Manchester United could be forced to cash in on him and demand £50 million, if push comes to shove. But, it remains to be seen if they are able to keep De Gea at Old Trafford instead, or if the Spanish international is swayed by the £90 million package that could be on offer from PSG.
