Transfer News: Liverpool, Everton chasing David Neres

Liverpool are reportedly interested in Ajax attacker David Neres and are plotting a summer move for the player, who is also drawing interest from Everton.

The Mirror have speculated that Liverpool are considering the possibility of moving for Ajax star David Neres in the summer transfer window. The Reds though, will have to battle local rivals Everton for the Brazilian, with the Toffees earmarking Neres as the target to reinforce the forward line.

The Merseyside duo are not alone in their pursuit of Neres. The report adds that Dortmund are eyeing the Brazilian as a potential replacement for Jadon Sancho, who has been heavily linked with a move to Manchester United. PSG though, have been termed as the ones that are most interested in the Ajax star.

Currently valued at £40 million, David Neres shot to fame in the 2017-18 season at Ajax and has continued to maintain his form in Eredivisie this campaign. In double figures for both goals and assists this season already, Neres recently received his first senior call-up and subsequently, his senior bow for Brazil.

Liverpool have one of the most stacked attacking units in the Premier League and Europe. But, Jurgen Klopp is insistent to add more depth to the squad to compete on all fronts and to have options beyond the quartet of Xherdan Shaqiri, Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane.

Neres has the requisite prolific nature and flair to light the Premier League up. Everton, on the other hand, are looking to add Neres to their own squad to complement the new-age attack at Goodison featuring Richarlison. Marco Silva wants a more direct forward line that can be dynamic and create something out of nothing and Neres ticks all the boxes.

Liverpool and Everton will have to battle PSG and Borussia Dortmund for Neres. The player is valued at £40 million by Ajax, which is fair by the current standards of the transfer market.

Neres will have a decision to make. Everton will be able to provide the 22-year-old with first-team football week-in week-out, but Liverpool, PSG and Dortmund will equip him with the opportunity of playing Champions League football. An intriguing summer ahead for Neres, who is making all the right noises.
