Transfer News: Zinedine Zidane hints towards Thibaut Courtois summer exit from Real Madrid

Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane has hinted at the potential sale of last summer’s signing Thibaut Courtois in the summer transfer window.

As reported by Daily Mirror, Zinedine Zidane has dropped a major hint alluding towards the possible departure of Thibaut Courtois in the summer transfer window. The Belgian shot stopper has seen his place being given to Keylor Navas since the Frenchman returned to the helm at Real Madrid.

Thibaut Courtois secured his dream move to Real Madrid last summer, leaving Chelsea after four fruitful seasons with the first-team, with Mateo Kovacic heading the other way on a season-long loan. The move though, for one reason or another, has not managed to pay off thus far.

The Belgian international, who came into this season on the back of a Golden Glove winning campaign at the 2018 FIFA World Cup, will not win a single trophy, with Real Madrid booted out of the Copa del Rey and the UEFA Champions League while also standing no realistic chance of winning the La Liga title.

With Julen Lopetegui and Santiago Solari failing to inspire any confidence in the club board, Zinedine Zidane was re-appointed as the manager last month. And, things have gone further downhill for Courtois in particular, with Keylor Navas reclaiming the mantle of being the first-choice goalkeeper.

While the 26-year-old is currently sidelined with an injury, rumours have been rife that he could be set to leave Real Madrid in the summer transfer window. And, as reported by Daily Mirror, Zidane hinted during his pre-match press conference ahead of the game against Valencia that Courtois could be on his way out of the Bernabeu soon.

“I assure you that next year there will be no debate about the goalkeeper. Whether I will play with a regular goalkeeper next year? That depends on the keepers that I will have in my squad. At the moment I have three good ones. But there will be certainly no debate, I tell you that now. It’s going to be pretty clear.”

The report suggests that should Courtois be put on the transfer list, PSG are likely to be leading the race to sign him. It now remains to be seen if the Belgian is indeed set to leave Real Madrid after just one year at the club and if so, the club that he ends up joining in the summer. For now, his situation looks bleak to say the least.
