Manchester United midfielder Ander Herrera, whose contract is up for expiry in the summer, is reportedly a summer target for Arsenal.

Amid speculation linking Ander Herrera with a move to Paris Saint-Germain in the summer, the Daily Mail have reported that Arsenal are also interested in the Manchester United midfielder. The Spaniard’s United deal is set to end in the summer and the midfielder is a Bosman target for several clubs.

The report iterates that Ander Herrera is not happy with how late Manchester United have left things as far as his contract situation is concerned. The Spaniard is eligible to talk to foreign clubs since January and PSG’s representatives have already initiated conversation with Herrera’s camp over a potential Bosman move.

Herrera reportedly wants to nearly double his current salary of £80,000 per week and is demanding a weekly wage of £150,000, something PSG are ready to offer. Manchester United do want to extend Herrera’s contract, but are hoping the Spaniard relaxes his wage demand a bit.

As per the report, Herrera has admitted his future is ‘up in the air’, which would not ease Manchester United’s concerns one bit. The Spaniard is one of the starters under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and the club will not want to lose him for free, that too a rival as fierce as Arsenal.

The Gunners are interested in Herrera as the Spaniard represents the best value-for-money deal. Unai Emery is likely to have to work under budget restrictions once again and could be tempted to move for the Manchester United midfielder, especially given the fact that he will be available on a free transfer.

Arsenal currently have Matteo Guendouzi, Lucas Torreira and Granit Xhaka as established options in midfield, with Aaron Ramsey exiting the club at the end of the season. The Gunners will have to battle PSG, but are likely to leave no stone unturned in terms of wages, with the club not having to spend any transfer fee on Herrera.

The 30-year-old is a popular figure among Manchester United fans, who will not take kindly to the prospect of losing him to Arsenal, if at all. The Spaniard endeared himself to the fans once more while speaking up about speculation as regards his future at United.

“I take it as normal. I focus on playing football in the month-and-a-half that remains (of the season). The rest is left to my agent, both the possible renewal with United and any talks with another club for my departure.”

“I enjoy playing for the biggest club in England. The fans love me, they have treated me phenomenally and my duty is to listen to them – although I honestly do not know what is going to happen.”

It will be interesting to see how the Ander Herrera situation pans out in the end. Juan Mata is in a similar situation and Manchester United fans will hope the two players end up committing their future to United before the end of the respective contracts.
