RB Leipzig have joined the chase for Chelsea’s highly-rated striker Tammy Abraham while many Premier League clubs are also eager to sign him in the summer.
The success of Jadon Sancho and Reiss Nelson in Germany has had a substantial effect on fellow youngsters at English clubs, with many showing a willingness to join the Bundesliga clubs. A report from The Sun suggests that RB Leipzig are now in the chase for Chelsea’s highly-rated young striker Tammy Abraham who has been excelling on loan at Championship side Aston Villa.
The striker has been in solid form this season at Villa, scoring 21 goals in 31 matches till date. His progress has been monitored by other clubs, and it is said that some Premier League side could also register their interest in the player. Wolves reportedly came close to signing him in January for £18 million, but the move did not materialize.
Now RB Leipzig are ready to pounce on any opportunity to sign Abraham in the summer window, especially if Chelsea show signs they might want to sell the striker. The report does suggest a possible £20 million fee that Chelsea would want for the striker, although this could increase if the striker finishes the season strongly.
Leipzig, however, are hopeful they can strike a deal with the Blues for the striker and could point towards Abraham the references of Emile Smith-Rowe who joined the club from Arsenal on loan in January. There is also the factor of RB Leipzig’s player recruiter Paul Mitchell, the man who took Dele Alli to Spurs, who is expected to play a massive role if Abraham is to make a move to Germany.
However, Wolves are also expected to be back in the chase for the striker, as their current forward and on-loan star Raul Jimenez is yet to make a decision on his future beyond this season. Additionally, Abraham has done nothing wrong for Wolves to cool their interest in him.
It would be Chelsea’s second young star who is subjected to interest from the Bundesliga in the space of a few months. Callum Hudson-Odoi was heavily tipped to join Leipzig’s Bundesliga rivals Bayern Munich in a £35 million move, which Chelsea rejected. Now Chelsea might be subject to yet another busy window warding off interest for their players.
The most significant factor, however, lies with parent club Chelsea and their potential two-transfer window ban, starting this summer. Chelsea will have to make some hard decisions, and letting go of a prolific forward may not be one of them.
The Blues currently have Gonzalo Higuain on loan and Olivier Giroud whose deal expires at the end of the season. In the case Chelsea fail with their ongoing appeal, the sale of Abraham might not happen.
Then again, the striker himself might have some say in deciding his future. In the case that Abraham feels he might not get as many minutes as expected at the Blues, then he might want to move away permanently. He could still stay in the Premier League and join Wolves or any other side, but the lure of joining up with one of Germany’s top team would also be hard to turn down.
