Manchester United and Manchester City are reportedly among several clubs prying to land French midfielder Tanguy Ndombele in the summer.
If the report by French outlet Le 10 Sport is to be believed, Tanguy Ndombele is attracting the interest from some of the biggest clubs in the world. Manchester United and Manchester City are seriously considering a move for the French midfielder, who has also been scouted by Barcelona, Real Madrid, Juventus and Inter Milan.
Tanguy Ndombele is one of several players who have been instrumental in providing stability to Lyon in the last couple of seasons. The 22-year-old had initially joined the club on loan from SC Amiens in the summer of 2017 before a solid campaign prompted Les Gones to sign him on a permanent deal last year.
The player seems to have come into his own this season, having played all but two games for Lyon. And, in the 31 games that he has featured in, the midfielder has provided a solid foundation in the middle of the park alongside Houssem Aouar.
His exploits seem to have left their mark on clubs outside France as well, with Manchester United and Manchester City eyeing a move for Ndombele. At Manchester United, Nemanja Matic, Ander Herrera and Paul Pogba have struck up a formidable partnership under the tutelage of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
But, with Matic now in his thirties, and already showing signs of age catching up to him this season, it is understandable why Manchester United might be in the market for midfield reinforcement for the second successive summer, especially with the backup options proving to be inconsistent.
Manchester City also have a similar problem as their local rivals, with Fernandinho now well into his thirties. To make matters more concerning, injuries have started striking the Brazilian midfielder, and the common consensus would be that the Premier League champions would do well to procure a long-term replacement for their star man.
To that end, Manchester City, like Manchester United have been in contact with Ndombele’s entourage, although discussions with Lyon are yet to begin. In addition to the two Premier League bigwigs, the likes of Inter Milan, Juventus, Real Madrid and Barcelona are also keeping their eyes on the player, as per the report.
But, Le 10 Sport add that the quartet are not seriously considering a move for the 22-year-old yet, meaning United and City are currently in the lead to sign him. Lyon though, are hoping to thwart the two clubs by slapping a price tag of €80 million on Ndombele.
The report does not provide any clarity on whether Manchester United and Manchester City are open to meeting Lyon’s valuation of the player. It remains to be seen if either of the Premier League heavyweights end up landing their target man in the summer. For now, Tanguy Ndombele continues to go from strength to strength.
