Chelsea and Manchester United are taking a keen look at Christian Eriksen after Real Madrid ended their interest in the Tottenham playmaker.

According to an exclusive from Express, Christian Eriksen has new suitors in the form of Chelsea and Manchester United. Real Madrid were interested in the playmaker. But, the club has since ended their interest in the Tottenham star, which is good news for the Premier League giants, who are looking to deal the Danish international into their respective squads.

Christian Eriksen was perhaps the best investment to emerge from the flurry of purchases Tottenham did to strengthen their squad from Gareth Bale’s sale. The Danish international was brought in for a bargain fee of £12 million. His performances since have only gone on to prove just how paltry the sum was.

One of the ‘Four Horsemen’ of the Spurs squad alongside Dele Alli, Son Heung-min and Harry Kane, Eriksen is the creative hub of Tottenham’s attack, setting up chances for the other three. His displays have drawn interest from every top European club, with Real Madrid plotting a move for the playmaker.

Eriksen’s ability to play out wide and through the middle makes him the perfect replacement for Isco, who is said to be on the exit trail at Real Madrid after not enjoying a run in the starting eleven under Santiago Solari. But, Real Madrid are now said to be prioritising a move for Eden Hazard and have shifted their focus entirely, leaving Eriksen to the likes of Chelsea and Manchester United.

The links with Manchester United make much more sense than Chelsea currently. Mauricio Pochettino is tipped to be the next permanent managerial choice at Old Trafford come summer. And, according to reports, one of his priorities is the recruitment of a playmaker or a number 10. Eriksen having played under him, would fit the bill.

Even if Ole Gunnar Solskjaer ends up being given the permanent job, which is not far off judging by the way he is currently managing Manchester United, Eriksen would be an asset to the team, with his ability to also play as an advanced playmaker from central midfield.

For Chelsea, Eriksen represents a not-so-direct replacement for Hazard. The Belgian international is being tipped to join Real Madrid in the summer, which would leave a gaping hole in the Chelsea setup. But, the club is looking to amp up the creative level within the starting eleven and trust new arrival Gonzalo Higuain with the goalscoring duties.

Eriksen’s deal is set to expire in the summer of 2020, meaning he would have just one year left on his Tottenham contract come summer. Chelsea and Manchester United will reportedly have a clear battle between themselves, with Real Madrid not in the running anymore. But, we can expect other clubs like PSG to join the chase. An intriguing summer lies ahead for Christian Eriksen.
