Liverpool and Manchester City have reportedly been joined by Bournemouth in pursuit of Abdulkadir Omur, who is valued at £25 million by Trabzonspor.
According to a report by Daily Express, Abdulkadir Omur is being chased by two of the biggest clubs in England, Liverpool and Manchester City, who also face stiff competition from Bournemouth for him. The teenage wonderkid, who plays for boyhood club Trabzonspor, has a £25 million price tag on his head.
Abdulkadir Omur is a Trabzon native, who progressed through the ranks at Trabzonspor before breaking into the first-team setup in 2016, aged just 16. Still only in his teens, the player is now a mainstay for his boyhood club, and has made 17 appearances across all competitions this season.
With two goals and four assists in these outings, the teenage wonderkid also is a decent contributor going forward, although he is more involved in the build-up play than in the end product. Poised to take his senior Turkey bow soon, Omur is also attracting interest from some of the top clubs in the world, including Liverpool and Manchester City.
Jurgen Klopp does have a gamut of central midfielders at his disposal. But, with James Milner now in the twilight of his career, signing a player like Omur could help the Liverpool boss lay down the succession plan for the veteran, as far as creative options are concerned.
However, in the short-term view, the purchase of the 19-year-old depends on Adam Lallana’s future, with the Englishman being linked with a move away from Liverpool. Manchester City, on the other hand, have been in the market for a midfielder for quite some time now.
The Premier League champions also need to mitigate the departure of Brahim Diaz, who has joined Real Madrid this month. And, with Omur capable of playing on either side of the midfield as well as in advanced areas, he is a viable target for Manchester City, who are hoping to beat Liverpool to his signature.
However, Liverpool and Manchester City now face stiff competition in pursuit of the teenage prodigy, with Bournemouth also showing an interest. The Cherries are unlikely to be fazed by Trabzonspor’s £25 million valuation of the player either, having shelled out a similar amount to sign Jefferson Lerma last summer.
Liverpool though, might hold a distinct advantage over Manchester City and Bournemouth in pursuit of the player, who has specifically addressed his links with the Reds, an did not rule out the prospect of making the switch to Anfield.
“Liverpool is a very important club. But the most important thing is Trabzonspor’s interests. If my club tell me that I can go, I’ll go. And if they tell me to stay, I’ll stay. We’ll see.”
Signing with Bournemouth though, could provide him a clearer pathway to regular first-team football. As things stand, however, Liverpool do seem to be leading the chase for Abdulkadir Omur, and it remains to be seen if the Merseyside club end up making a move for him, or if some other club swoops him away instead.
