Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri is reportedly weighing up a January move for Lyon captain Nabil Fekir to strengthen his attacking options.
The Daily Mail have reported that Chelsea have Nabil Fekir as one of their potential targets in January. The Blues are keen on strengthening their attacking options in the winter transfer window, with some of their options being Gonzalo Higuain and Christian Pulisic.
Fekir, who has 7 goals and 2 assists to his name this season, is currently valued at €70 million and his contract with Lyon lasts until the summer of 2020. Earlier this year, Liverpool were ready to pay €55 million for the French forward, but the deal tanked in the last minute.
Chelsea though, are hoping to finalize the formalities for the transfer of the World Cup winner in January and land him at Stamford Bridge this winter.
Interestingly, the Blues have secured the services of the super agent Pini Zahavi to negotiate for their side to give them an extra edge over the likes of Bayern Munich. The Bundesliga giants have also flirted with the idea of signing Fekir.
This development comes with the news of the possible reunion of Sarri and Higuain for the first time since their days at Napoli. Higuain had initially held talks with Chelsea at the start of the year, but a move failed when the Argentine went out on loan to AC Milan from Juventus.
Another option for Sarri would be Christian Pulisic from Borussia Dortmund. The United States winger is also attracting interest from Paris Saint-Germain and Liverpool. The 20-year-old is the youngest player ever to captain the US national football team with 7 goals from 13 appearances.
The Blues need a creative presence up front to help them restore their status as a Champions League side. With chances of Eden Hazard moving to Real Madrid in the winter floating around, the Blues need a playmaker like the Lyon forward to fill the Belgium’s boots.
Chelsea need to sign an aggressive forward in the winter transfer window if they plan to qualify for the Champions League next year. The possibility of Hazard leaving Stamford Bridge seems to grow stronger everyday, so does the need to sign Fekir, Higuain or Perisic.
Even if Hazard doesn’t leave, a player like Fekir would boost Chelsea’s attack considerably, making him a viable target. However, it remains to be seen if they can indeed land the Frenchman in January, with Lyon only open to selling him next summer.
