Chelsea legend Dennis Wise has advised manager Maurizio Sarri to pursue Premier League superstar Jamie Vardy to solve his side’s attacking woes.
As reported by Tribal Football, Chelsea hero Dennis Wise has advised the Blues to make a move for Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy. The West Londoners’ strikers have been inconsistent in front of goal, and Wise has opined that Premier League superstar Vardy could solve some of their problems.
Jamie Vardy’s has been a Cinderella story, with the striker making his way up from the depths of non-league football before establishing himself as a force to be reckoned with in the Premier League. After a breakthrough campaign in the 2014-15 season, the Englishman played a pivotal role as Leicester shocked everyone by winning the league title.
Since helping the Foxes do the unthinkable, Vardy has remained one of the best in the Premier League, constantly delivering the goods for his side while also establishing himself in the national side before retiring from international football earlier this year. And, Chelsea legend Dennis Wise believes Vardy is exactly what the Blues need.
“I would’ve looked to bring in a third striker over the summer, someone who guarantees goals. You’re not going to get Aguero, you’re not going to get Kane, but for me there’s a third option in Jamie Vardy. He’s a natural goalscorer in a team that doesn’t create loads of chances, I think he’d be fantastic in the Chelsea side.”
Indeed, Chelsea have struggled to be a prolific side in front of goal, with their strikers in particular, not at the desired level for a top club. While Alvaro Morata has never managed to convince the Blues’ faithfuls, Olivier Giroud’s lack of goals is a major problem, his other attributes notwithstanding.
Meanwhile, Michy Batshuayi has not managed to showcase himself as a reliable striker for Chelsea, which has seen him play away from Stamford Bridge for much of 2018. Due to the strikers’ inconsistent performances, the Blues have been too heavily dependent on Eden Hazard, and are far from being Premier League title contenders.
Vardy would thus, be a viable target for the West Londoners, even if he is a stop gap at 31. However, Chelsea have not been linked with many strikers lately, even though they are believed to be in the market seeking reinforcements in attack.
They have been linked with the likes of Mauro Icardi, among others previously, but those rumours have disappeared. But, heeding the advice of Dennis Wise and making a move for Vardy could serve Chelsea well for a few years, especially with the 31-year-old being a proven quantity in the Premier League.
Vardy has previously been linked with Chelsea, and it will be interesting to see if the Blues reignite their interest in him, with the player still firing on all cylinders.
