Transfer News: Manchester City beat Arsenal, Wolves to land 14-year-old Darko Gyabi

Arsenal and Wolves have been handed the short straw, with Manchester City winning the race to sign 14-year-old Millwall prodigy Darko Gyabi.

According to The Sun, Manchester City have decided to shell out a potential million in order to land Darko Gyabi. The 14-year-old Millwall star has decided to join the Citizens, despite interest from Arsenal and Wolves.

Manchester City have had to pay an upfront fee of £300,000 to Millwall for the youngster, an amount that could rise up to a massive £1 million, depending on the maturity and activation of the bonuses and clauses. But, City are hoping for big things from Gyabi, with the club rating him as highly as former star Jadon Sancho.

Interestingly, Sancho left Manchester City due to a lack of exposure in the first-team and found a new home in the Bundesliga at Dortmund, who did not hesitate in handing the youngster the coveted number 7 jersey. Sancho is a regular part of their first-team setup and even took his senior bow for England in the 3-0 win over United States of America.

But, Gyabi is not like  Sancho. The youngster operates in the centre of midfield and has been likened to Manchester United superstar and 2018 FIFA World Cup winner Paul Pogba. Gyabi is a box-to-box player who dazzles the onlookers with his dribbling ability and flair, just like the Frenchman.

The 14-year-old was playing for the Millwall Under-16 side and his talent already attracted the likes of Manchester City, Arsenal and Wolves. The Molineux outfit have a youthful squad and seem to be doing well in their first season back to playing top-flight football. Led by an inspired manager in Nuno Espirito Santo, Wolves are always on the lookout for future talent.

Arsenal on the other hand, would have thought they held an edge, with the player hailing from South London. The Gunners have seen many-a youngsters come through their academy ranks to forge a place in their first-team, with the latest name being Alex Iwobi and Emile Smith Rowe.

But, Manchester City have a history of recruiting young talent from the said region, with the likes of Jadon Sancho, Taylor Richards and a few other prominent names hailing from the same area.

City would be ecstatic with being able to land the player’s signature, who looks like another gem, judging by the interest and the reports. For Arsenal and Wolves, it will be a case of trying again for another star.
