PSV Eindhoven superstar Hirving Lozano has revealed his admiration for Manchester United amid speculation linking him with a move to Barcelona
In an interview with talkSPORT’s Universo Premier, Hirving Lozano has admitted to feeling special over his links with several English clubs. The Mexican upstart, who is also the subject of interest from Barcelona, has provided Manchester United a boost by revealing his admiration for the club as a child.
Lozano had been thrust into the spotlight ever since he secured a move to PSV Eindhoven from boyhood club CF Pachuca in the summer of 2017. His progress over the last year or so has been extraordinary, although the player’s stock skyrocketed following a breakout campaign for Mexico at the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
Lozano’s performances at the start of the season for PSV have further invited attention towards his burgeoning talent – the 23-year-old has 11 goals and 5 assists in 19 appearances across all competitions. Unsurprisingly, several clubs have been linked with him, the most prominent of them being Barcelona and Manchester United.
Barcelona were one of the clubs interested in Lozano in the summer transfer window as well, with the player himself confirming it. And, the Blaugrana’s interest of the Mexican international does make sense, with both Ousmane Dembele and Malcom facing uncertain futures at Camp Nou.
Should either (or both) of the players end up departing from the club, a player like Lozano could be a viable long-term solution on either flank. But, Barcelona are not alone in pursuit of the player, with Manchester United also chasing after him.
The interest from the Premier League heavyweights is pretty straightforward. Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has been yearning for a player who can man the right side of the attack, providing pace and width on the flank. But, his attempts so far have been futile. Lozano though, is an attractive target, with his ability to play on either flank equally adeptly.
Manchester United have now been handed a major boost in pursuit of the 23-year-old, who has revealed that he admired the Red Devils as a child, although he also added that he likes Barcelona as well.
“It´s nice English papers talk nicely about me. It´s special. Personally I say thanks for the nice words. I always try to improve and give something extra. I will keep on improving. I liked Manchester United a lot. In Spain my favourite team is Barcelona.”
Lozano’s comments thus, tantalisingly set up a transfer war between Manchester United and Barcelona, who will both fancy their chances of snapping him up, should they make a move. For now, he is going from strength to strength at PSV, although it remains to be seen how long he remains with the Dutch giants.
