Manchester United are reportedly leading the chase for out-of-favour Chelsea superstar Victor Moses, who is also a target for Crystal Palace
If a report by Daily Express is to be believed, Manchester United have emerged as the shock favourites to secure the services of Victor Moses in the January transfer window. The Red Devils also have Crystal Palace for company in pursuit of the out-of-favour Chelsea superstar.
Victor Moses enjoyed the two best years of his senior club career under the tutelage of Antonio Conte at Chelsea. The Italian tactician gave the Nigerian winger a new lease of life upon shuffling his formation in the early days of his managerial stint at Stamford Bridge, with the need of a wing-back suiting his abilities perfectly.
While Moses was unsurprisingly suspect on the defensive side of the game, it is on the other end where he produced his best, with his pacy outlet and pinpoint deliveries making him a potent threat. But, the departure of Conte and the subsequent arrival of Maurizio Sarri as the Chelsea boss has sent the player tumbling down the pecking order, which is now opening the door to a possible Manchester United move.
Manchester United have long been eager to sign a naturally right-sided winger, a pursuit that is yet to bear fruit despite Jose Mourinho’s specific demands. But, with widespread reports claiming that the club is set to back Mourinho in the January transfer window, several targets have been named, Moses being the latest.
Moses does fit the bill for Manchester United and Mourinho, with his ability to provide pinpoint crosses while adding pace and width to the right flank being exactly what they need. But, whether the out-of-favour Chelsea superstar is the consistent option that will make the difference consistently at Old Trafford is debatable.
Nevertheless, it looks like United are ready to push through with a move for Moses, who is reportedly considering his future at Chelsea. Completing the transfer would thus, be relatively straightforward for a player who still has a lot to offer at 27.
As per the report, Crystal Palace, Wolves and Everton are also keeping an eye on developments, but are currently trailing the Red Devils. It now remains to be seen if Manchester United can complete a shock move for Victor Moses, or if the out-of-favour Chelsea superstar moves elsewhere.
