Arsenal and PSG are reportedly in the running to sign Atletico Madrid midfielder Thomas Partey, who could seek a move in the near future.

Ghanasoccernet claim that Thomas Partey could be available on the transfer market come January. The Atletico Madrid has seen his opportunities limited so far this season. His situation is being closely monitored by both Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain.

Thomas Partey is a product of the Atletico Madrid youth setup. The midfielder rose through the age levels, breaking into the first-team setup at the Spanish capital in the 2015-16 season. But, the 2017-18 campaign was his most successful one in terms of locking down a regular place.

He made a massive 50 appearances last season, becoming one of the pillars within the first-team setup at Atletico Madrid. But, Diego Simeone has preferred summer arrival Rodri over him so far this season, with the 25-year-old seeing only 378 minutes of action, despite 9 appearances in total and an admirable return of a goal and 2 assists.

Partey’s performances in the 2017-18 season already drew admirers and his potential availability is starting to attract top clubs again, with Arsenal and PSG showing interest in his services.

Arsenal welcomed Matteo Guendouzi and Lucas Torreira during the summer transfer window. And while the two summer arrivals have been regularly involved in the first-team setup under Unai Emery, the manager is already laying down plans for when Aaron Ramsey departs, a proposition which is more likely to happen than not.

The Gunners have been recently linked to Ruben Loftus-Cheek. But, Chelsea could play hardball or choose not to negotiate at all with their local rivals. Thus, Emery is also monitoring Partey’s situation closely. Ghanasoccernet claim that Arsenal were interested in Partey in the past as well and are set to renew their interest, should he become available.

PSG on the other hand, have a similar situation in hand in the form of Adrien Rabiot, who is being linked with the likes of Liverpool and Barcelona. Thomas Partey could prove to be a intelligent signing, with his work-rate likely to be a major factor.

To add to Partey’s struggle for regular minutes this season, Diego Simeone wants to sign Rodrigo Bentancur, which would see Partey fall further down the pecking order at Atletico Madrid.

Expect the 25-year-old to seek a move in the summer, if not January. But, should Arsenal or PSG come swooping in for the Ghanaian midfielder in January, Atletico Madrid could be willing to negotiate in order to use the funds to bankroll a move for Bentancur.

A transfer that depends on the suitors.
