Transfer News: Real Madrid plotting world record January move for Harry Kane

Real Madrid have reportedly reignited their interest in English international Harry Kane, and are preparing a world record bid for the Tottenham star

According to a report by Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo, Real Madrid have set their sights back on Tottenham striker Harry Kane. The European champions are ready to test Spurs’ resolve with a world record bid in the January transfer window, if they bow out of the Champions League in the group stage.

Kane’s rise over the last few years has been quite meteoric to say the least. Having only received the opportunity in the Tottenham first-team setup due to Roberto Soldado’s struggles at Tottenham, the English international hasn’t looked back since, establishing himself as one of the best strikers in world football.

The latest in his lengthy list of achievements was winning the Golden Boot at the 2018 FIFA World Cup, and the player seems to be picking up pace after a slow start to the season. And, unsurprisingly, Kane’s exploits have piqued the interest of some of the biggest clubs in the world, chief among them being Real Madrid.

Los Blancos, in fact, hold a long-standing interest in Kane, although they haven’t made an official move for him just yet. Even when Cristiano Ronaldo called it quits this past summer, the likes of Neymar and Eden Hazard were believed to be the priority targets for Real Madrid, with Karim Benzema enjoying the confidence of Florentino Perez.

But, after a strong start to the season, the Frenchman has petered out massively, failing to find the back of the net in his last six outings for Real Madrid. Signing a world class striker has thus, become a priority for the European champions, who have now set their sights on English international, Kane.

Real Madrid are of the opinion that Tottenham’s resolve could be tested if they fail to go past the UEFA Champions League group stage. The Spanish heavyweights are therefore, preparing a January bid that would break the world record transfer fee.

With Tottenham facing financial uncertainties due to the construction of their stadium, which has been delayed as well, Real Madrid believed that they can force Spurs to part ways with the English international with the massive bid.

Daniel Levy though, is infamous for his tough negotiations, and will likely battle hard to keep hold of his prized asset. A testing January transfer window beckons for Tottenham though, and it remains to be seen if they can thwart Real Madrid in their pursuit of the English international, and if the player himself chooses to stay loyal to Spurs.
